I haven't noticed a big change in the Maxima. MPG and power seem to be the same.

The 93 Sable was an overnight change. I had a K&N in my 91 Explorer (4.0 pushrod) and it was stronger with better MPG. Go figure.

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST
THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH LOW OCTANE OR HIGH RPM PING. IT IS MERELY AN INHERENT PING IN SOME 3.5L ENGINES THAT OCCURS AT LOW RPM AND LITTLE THROTTLE.

I had a K&N air filter in my 2002 Maxima. While trying to diagnose a low RPM ping, I removed the K&N air filter. For over 2 weeks, the ping did not return...then it came back. Weird.

I put the K&N in my wifes 93 Sable. That car felt very heavy on the road, but since putting the K&N in the car, it feels like it has a lot of power. The only downside is the fuel mileage has dropped from 300 miles a tank to 250 miles a tank.

I have had a similar problem with low fuel economy with a K&N filter. I had a K&N filter both in my 96 Accord and 01 CR-V. I changed them out because of some of the information on this site and some others. I changed them out with Wix brand air filters. I just filled up my Accord, which got 23mpg city with K&N, to 27 mpg with Wix. My Accord runs smoother and stronger and my wife asked me what I did to her CR-V to make it run better. I did not tell her I changed the filter in hers. I have since, but she noticed that the CR-V went from 20 mpg in the city, to 24 mpg with the Wix. She says it has better power and it idles very very smoothly.

That's my story...
