I noticed that a couple of posts here concerning Mobil 1 got locked up. I don't want to get this post locked up so I will avoid all of that stuff as much as I can. But it does seem to me that if a synthetic oil flowed at -55 to -65 in the past and now flows at only about -38 that something has changed. Heck, Pennzoil conventional will flow at about -35 or so. So I figure perhaps a person should just use conventional oil. I can get Valvoline for 10 bucks or less per 5 quart case. Add a little Valvoline synthetic oil treatment (about 2 oz.) and 3 oz. of Auto-RX to keep the engine clean and maybe you have a winner. The Valvoline engine oil treatment would last for a few oil changes.
In the wintertime I still would want to find a synthetic if I could. Maybe the 0W30 Mobil 1 still flows at a low temperature. Or maybe use Pennzoil Platinum. Maybe just use a conventional oil if the conventional oils flow about the same as the synthetics today.
