Just recieved that new EA filter and just by looking at it, it appears to be half the size of their old Super Duty Filters. So it filters more, it obviously must have a smaller surface area of filter media, but its supposed to last 25K miles or one year?? Just seems like a step back to make the filters smaller? The reason I went with the amsoil filters to begin with was that they were about twice the size of the OEM. Any opinions/facts about these

What number was the SDF? And what number is the EaO?
The new Ea filter uses a more "robust" filter media, so supposedly, its able to do a better job than the previous SDF filters even with the lesser amount of media.
Is the Ea smaller than stock?
The Ea filter for my 94 4 cyl Camry was basically the same size as the SDF filter I removed. While I might like to have a larger filter, I believe that the test results that Amsoil publishes are the most important gauge of a filter.
Same as stock, not smaller. It may be the new Ea057 has been made closer to stock to fit some vehicles the SDF didn't fit.
I replaced my SDF-26 with the new EaO-26. It is exactely the same physical size on the outside.
Heres another question, if a filter becomes more efficient at filtering as time goes on, at the expense of flow, then how can these new filters filter particles out that are much smaller than the last SDFs (and are the same size) but last that much longer? Basically the same surface area catching twice as many particles. I just dont see the logic that it lasts Longer.
I believe the media is made differently. The new Amsoil filter with the Nano tech is like a mazed spider web. It's a very fine particle trapper, that it can hold finer and more volume because of it's construction. I mean if they use this technology in the medical practice such as filtering blood for purity, it's advance stuff.
2003TRD - the basic idea of the SDF filter was to have multiple layers of media, which the outside layer catching only the largest particles and the inner layer catching the smaller ones. That way it does not clog quickly but still filters fine particles. With a single layer of normal media your caught between catching fine particles and having the filter clog quickly.
With the Ea filters they have gone beyond the multiple layers of media, but you get the picture.
