Door to door cold call rep from Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable) said bring-your-own router/wifi price for internet only (no bundle) 100Mbs service would be $40 a month.

I'm paying $30 a month with Wide Open West for 30Mbps my own modem and wifi.

Almost bit on it, but held off because have heard bad stories on TWC not meeting their speed claims, plus my own experience with them in the past wasn't stellar.

Hummm......

If you are happy with your provider and 30 Mbs meets your needs why switch?
Why would anyone need more then 30 Mbs?
I have 40 Mbs but everything i have is wireless so i really am getting about 27 Mbs when i test it.
I stream Netflix and Amazon content with no problem.

Is this the 12 month intro price?

That's undoubtedly what it is.

Those can be streamed (even 4K stuff) with 20 Mbps.

Greetings-
Ppl are under the incorrect assumption that high Mbps means high speed internet. Not so. It just means alot of data can be moved at a given speed. It could be low. It's just a measure of through put, not speed. Its like comparing a single car travelling down a one lane road at 60 mph with many cars travelling down a four lane road at 60 mph. Same speed, just more cars (100Mbps). The high 100Mbps throughput is required if many devices (streaming video, computers, phones, etc) are online to consume data. If only several- a waste of potential bandwidth and $$$

I'm paying just over $60.00 a month for 50 Mbps, using my own router. Sounds like a great deal!

Respectfully,

Pajero!

In my Spectrum area in SoCal they don't want anyone bringing their own gateway anymore.
I have mine, under a grandfathered agreement, but I can't change 30/3 without getting their gateway.

I'd definitely jump at 100/? and I can keep my own gateway.

Guess if someone is using the term "high speed data", they better say at what fraction of the speed of light those data bits are traveling through the wires.

Which if I am understanding correctly is why Spectrum slowed down during Holidays when everyone connected their smart TV's sitting around the house using there Ipads, etc.

I have Spectrum 100mbps, but Speed Test says it is 133mbps. Since Holidays are over very stable. During holidays needed to power cycle the modem and router often. It was like I was in a traffic jam and the traffic started flowing after power cycle was completed.

I think our price is $50, so you would have a price increase to also look forward to.

We use Spectrum at work with supported apartments and houses. One apartment speed is 60 mbps and a house is closer to 30 mbps, but according to IT department rated speed is supposed to be 100mbps.

What I am saying I think it depends on where you live how good it is going to be. Kinda like real estate. Location, location, location.

Spectrum/ TWC user here. Don't do it! I am at $45/mo through some special arrangement/ grandfathering/ don't-poke-the-bear deal.

They are shady AF. You have to enter your name and address into their website to get a (regular) price quote. Presumably the richer guy down the road will get a higher quote. The introductory prices are all that's advertised. The power/water/gas companies don't get to do this!

The actual internet service is okay but I'd go with any other option if I could.

I have 120 down and honestly never noticed a large difference from 30-50 Mbps except downloading large file. The one constant is in year 2000 I had 5Mbps down/5Mbps up and still have 5Mbps up. That is the choke for me. I think Spectrum and Time Warner are worst at giving consistent upload which matters for my IT job.

I pay $83/month which is pocket change to avoid a commute. My family and myself manager to use 500 GB a month according to Xfinity. I believe majority is YouTube and wife streaming her shows.

If I could've gotten it documented I probably could've used it to see if Wide Open West would bump up my 30 to 45 or even 60Mbps for no extra charge. Probably still give them a call and see if they'll do that. But I'd prefer to stay with WOW because they let you use your own modem as long as it's on their compatibility list, which is a long list too. Just got the new Zoom 5370 modem at Christmas.

I am really happy with Spectrum as we get the speed we pay for. I used to be in the camp with you dont need as much speed as we have, but I can clearly see and feel the difference.
As you know I also have my own Tp Link modem and router (which we own) as well as my entire set up, well thought out.

My wifes company pays our internet or yes, I would be at 25 or 50. Its not really needed but it is fun. Darn, I just touch the enter button on my computer and by the time I release it, "Im there" *L*
Streaming video on Roku/Netflex etc, same deal.

Our "jitter" this morning on Speed Test Plus was 3 and never above 10 but that is partly a result of my network and proper filtered power and ethernet lines etc, Download this morning was 115, latency 33 (many times this is lower)

As I type this I did a Verizon test and download was 116.48. Seems like gone are the days of not getting what you pay for,
there are times if you do a test where it can be a little lower but pretty darn consistent.

The cost is $54.95 a month and again, if I paid for it, I would see about something in the 25 to 50 mbps range.
Also our electric co-op is laying fiber optic and offering 100/100 @ $49.94 so I am sure this will keep Spectrum in its place.

I do not take "special deals" from any providers, unless of course I know I am going to keep the service. But when making the decision I want to know upfront what the regular price is.
