Just got done mowing my front yard and decided I better do the abandoned house next door since no one else will. The neighbor two houses down normally does it with his commercial mower. But I have a push mower and had to force it thru a foot of grass. I'm exhausted.

Send a bill to the realtor or bank who has foreclosed on it. Tell them that it is against community policy for "visual inconsistencies" among homes and that it decreases the value on your home. Do it in person just to see the look on their face.

Is there an abandoned car to go with the abandoned house? Is it in front of your property?

Depending where you live in the country, there can be mice, snakes, or other pests that like tall grass, and can affect you as well.

Sorry for the sympathy post. But I was wondering if anyone else is taking care of a foreclosed home in the neighborhood.

that is the only reason i keep on top of my grass instead of just mowing every other week.. SNAKES.. they like tall grass.. i dont like SNAKES.. i cut weekly 3.5 acre back yard.. id never get my wife to hang laundry outside ever again if she came across a 4-6ft Indiana blacksnake..

It's amazing what 5 gallons of diesel, and a match will do to an abandoned house.......

Actually nothing except for an oily mess. 8)

Indiana black snake? That sounds suspiciously like a Florida white snake!!!

Yep, look it up ! we have lots of them, there not dangerous. Farmers like to catch them and put them in barns to keep mice at bay, if you have a crawlspace its also a great place to keep them.. with that said, i still hate SNAKES... Maybee there not tech called "Indiana" but they are black snakes.. average anywhere between 3.5 up to 6, and even seven footers..

I think you missed the joke.Sorry man, I really was trying to make a joke.Get-it ..Florida white snake ???

Our neighbors took care of our place while it sat for sale, right before we bought it...I would do the same if nothing else than to keep things presentable and as a favor for my neighbors.

We gave our commercial mower a workout last night...several weeks of drought followed by inches of rain over the past couple weeks, the grass is growing faster than we can mow it! We mowed three days ago, and took a good three to four inches off last night!

I used to before I moved. I push mowed their yard when I did mine because it was abandoned. After I moved, a house across the street was empty, but one of my neighbors has a sweet zero-turn mower and he took that responsibility for about 2 years. Now it is occupied.

I think it's a good thing to do for the neighborhood.
