Yes...right now on Christmas in the car with her bf w/ the car running in park.

Wife saw them when she let the dog out, full clear bottle in hand drinking from the neck. Dog made a beeline for the fence next to the car. Scared them both but she is harmless just loud. She comes in and tells me I grab my phone & shoes.

I head right up to the rear of the car and take a pic of the plate. Too washed out due to the outside lights on. I tell them in a jerk tone but I wanted to get my point across. Her BF catches me and gets some words out. They both give me the deer in headlights glare.

I cursed a fair amount but in so many words I say "I see the car leave, I call the cops. I have your plate. Turn the car off and go drink inside. You do not need to be doing anything like that on Christmas. You do not need to get killed."

Now she has been in one car wreck already but I don't the know the circumstances. She was screwed up pretty good for a while. I just know her old car didn't return.

I certainly don't want to be another father to either of them but darnit that is so &$@# stupid.

I will fulfill my promise if I see that car leave before dawn. Now I just wish I could stay up all night to watch it. Already up to late wrapping presents for the kids.

Alcohol + kids...oiy

Well at least you let them finish the party... I think you did the fair but responsible thing here. Cheers to you.

Ya I really don't care what she does...except for that, technically if my wife was still working her old shift she'd be at the hospital right now.

No sense making a scene unless I need to so, ya.

+++1

Not letting somebody kill somebody on my watch if I can help it....I've already lost TWO friends to drunk drivers....

They were drinking in the driveway, in the car, to be alone. They could have done so elsewhere.
Now they might go elsewhere lest the "creepy' neighbor spy on them and report them.

Not saying you did anything wrong, or are creepy.

Actions can have the opposite intendeded consequences where youths are concerned, and indignant outrage always tops the list...... on both sides

Yup so you call on them then you have to take off from work to go to court.. And then you have their cousin Vinny or Angelo coming to your house..
i had a do gooder living on my block that could not mind his own business when i was a kid they moved away pretty quick.

Public street, infront of my house not her driveway.

Maybe early 20's, drinking age I am sure.

He left cops were informed...1 hour is not long enough to get the alcohol out of your system. Especially a couple of shots worth.

Good point, well made.

A good move in such a situation is to grap the ignition key. It,s not possible for them to drive. And the day after they have to come back with hang overs and look you in the eyes and ask for there key.

Yeah theft is a good way to teach them a lesson.... people are quick to sue/press charges here in the USA.

You do that here and you will be charged with felony burglary and theft. If something doesn't belong to you, leave it alone! If someone reaches into my car here, they are getting shot. And the police will high five me and escort them to jail after (if) they survive and get released from the hospital.

Ofcourse i was not taking The differences between The US and Denmark in to calculation. But actually. Taking the keys is an official advise from Danish police in such a situation. And no. You will not be charged for theft.

MILLIONS of people share a drink with their friends / family, especially around the holidays, and then drive. It is up to each person to know their limit and if they are over the limit or not.

I don't condone drinking and driving (my dad was almost killed by drunk driver and I absolutely hate alcoholics/drunks), but what the op did was Bull S of the highest order.

If you're dumb enough to be caught you

1) should be embarrassed and
2) are not in control of the situation-- what grumpy person deals with you, how they escalate to authority. The only control you have is being contrite and backing down.

Oh, so those cops waiting outside bars at 1:00 am stopping drivers that are drunk really should mind their own business and trust people to know their limit and not exceed it.
I have rarely heard such an idiotic statement.
By your logic, leave everyone alone until or unless they slam into some other vehicle, bicycle or pedestrian and only then rein them in.
No, son, when we have reason to believe they are intoxicated and a danger to those around them we get involved and let the cops know. And I/we don't give a shyt if you like it or not.

On Thanksgiving day back in 1996 my beautiful 19 year old niece hopped in her car after the family dinner to go see her boyfriend and spend time with his family. On the way, a drunk driver blew through a red light, ran into her car, and killed her instantly. Her body was so mangled the funeral was closed casket. Her mother spent the next two years literally sitting on her daughter's grave every day sobbing and writing letters to her dead daughter which she would then place in a mailbox her husband had installed above the grave. That my friends, is profound grief. If someone back then had done something like the OP, my niece would still be alive and my family spared the pain and heartbreak of losing someone so dear in such a senseless tragedy. While not wanting to offend anyone, I quite frankly find it idiotic and selfish to the extreme that some would defend their right to put the lives of others in danger. If that makes me a grumpy old man, then I'm proud to be one. I say it was a good call by the OP.

Is she underage? Are there open container laws in the area/state?

I like the idea of directly reporting to the police. Easton isn't that rural, and the cops should respond pretty quick.

It IS your problem because it's an active illegal behavior going on potentially.
