So I get yet another summons for jury duty from the Superior Court of California. They pick me for some reason about every two years. I wonder what happens if I don't again politely point out that I'm not a citizen. If I were to show up, would they check my suitability only to find out they lucked out, or would they simply take me by my word and put me on a jury? Hang 'em higher, I says!

What, there's such a thing as Californian citizenship?

No, I am not a US citizen -- hence no jury duty.

Why would you gloat that your illegal status allows you all the rights and priveledges of other legal citizens, without having any of the responsibilities? Get legal, or get out.

I'm not illegally here. If I were, I'd hardly talk about it publicly.

I guess you don't know the difference between resident and citizen. You coined the fantasy terms "citizen of California/America."

And as for privileges and rights, as a permanent alien resident with work permit I have the privilege to pay taxes, but no right to exercise civic duty.

Who says he is illegal. He can be a legal alien, or perhaps a resident, but not a citizen.

The funny thing is, while I am a German citizen, I am not a German resident anymore, because I live more than 6 months out of the year abroad.

Seriously - that is pretty messed up. I always thought they got jury duty picks from voter rolls. Maybe not enough of them, so they hit the INS.

No, they get the names from the DMV.

The point of my "whining" and "gloating" post was this: who knows who ends up sitting on juries with such a stupid and inefficient system of picking potential jurors.

Never trust your fate to 12 people who are not smart enough to get out of jury duty.

A jury of YOUR peers.

Hmmm, I would think Moribundman would be set if he ever went before a jury of his peers. No death penalty, pretty short prison sentences, and a good chance of being sent to a work camp on Mallorca for the summer.

Seriously, if I ever want to become a bank robber, I'm going to Germany. The German post offices around my wife's neck of the woods are robbed on a monthly basis and the fellas from "Tatort" never catch any of them.

BTW: Locals claim they're French bandits and Romas...

OUTRAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am I alone being OUTRAGED at the thought of being on trial with the possibility of 12 average American idiotic sheep being present to judge me???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Babbling buffoons brainwashed by a plethora of sources.

More concerned with what sport is on the telly or what is on sale at the mall.

The average American who seldom to never reads a non-fiction book or even a newspaper..... and the minority who do read a newspaper seldom go past the first paragraph or two (the research is out there to back up my mumbling).

Idiotic simpletons whose ability for rational thinking is akin to a kumquat?

ACCCKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to the "professionals," however one wants to define the term; among those involved with the legal (not justice) system, if you are innocent request a non-jury proceeding wherein the judge determines guilt and a jury if thou art guilty. Exceptions assuredly exist.

Remember, kids, despite all the propaganda to the contrary, for us commoners, if ever tried for a crime, expect to have to prove your innocence vice the state having to prove thine guilt. Exceptions assuredly exist.

Kinda' sad I feel compelled to add the "exceptions exist" clause since, I believe, logically-minded folk would already know and assume that BUT.........

well...... despite the enormity of educated clear-thinking folks on this board I HAVE noticed some of the typical knee-jerk reaction stuff so common among the citizenry.

Carry on.
