The relined brake shoes stopped being a thing just after I started wrenching, circa 2006 or so. Had to seek them out. But Advance Auto had them for $12 for my Dodge Dakota without needing any "online coupons" or other shenanigans.

I’ve done many 5 qt with filter oil changes in the driveway for less than $5. Either Pennzoil YB or VWB 10w30.

And apparently, some do via RA closeouts.

I like the price range of air filters....$2.97 to $28.99.

The 88 cents oil is after rebate. The sale price of $1.29 is equivalent to about $2.64 today. If you roughly double the prices in that 1996 advertisement you get today's equivalent. All in all, the ad prices are fairly close to today's value.

Still, nostalgia is fun to explore. Back then, aftermarket vehicle parts were better quality in my opinion - MOOG, Timken, FELPRO, etc..

Time passes faster than you can imagine youngsters. Embrace it if you have the opportunity.

Fair, but $2.64 a quart is cheaper than anything you can find today without a rebate or price error.
