John Deere Z515E, better oil to use than Turf Gard?

The Z515E doesn't have servicable hydro fluid/filters, so you don't really need to worry hydro fluid unless you plan to drop the units and dump them out.

If you do, use Hygard Low Viscosity or any quality 15w40/20w50.

I went with the Fram synthetic filter and the 5w-40 Mobil 1, euro blend. Walmart had it cheaper than Costco! I will do an oil change probably before the next mow. I will see if there is any metal in it.

Thanks all for the info.

I'm at 53 hours right now.

I am hoping I won't have to mess with the trans units, just want to get some hydro oil as a back up.

The JD Turfgard is conventional oil and is more expensive than synthetic. Doesn't make sense other than they mark it up because they put their name on it.

That's exactly what it is. It's good oil, but certainly not a good value.

Not even one person advocating the John Deere Turfgard brand. Would definitely take that hint!

Considering how they John Deere are in the process of laying people off currently and some other questionable actions, I hope they close the doors.

I am sure JD will endure current events. There are boatloads of other companies who have moved manufacturing to Mexico long before JD announced it. Would you happen to own a Ram by chance?

I'm with those who say JD Turfgard isnt special or worth the extra $$. Any SL+ will do fine.

One of JD's suppliers Gates will be closing by the end of the year.If you could hear the conversations going on, I believe this is the beginning of the end.

No Rams nor ever there will be 😂

One of JD's suppliers got hit with the layoffs as well. If you could hear the conversations going on, I believe this is the beginning of the end.

Gates? Many of their products are made in China and have had a very sketch reputation in the Subaru community for a decade now.

JD has had manufacturing facilities in India for 25 years as well.

While its sad to hear about the layoffs, out of 83k, 6k is 7% and is probably how many they hired during the spree during Covid along with every single other company who took handouts. I feel JD layoffs are simply the starting point across quite a few industries.

I just got word that Gates will be closing by the end of the year.

Not sure I would go that far. Internal combustion engines have been vilified by the political establishment, and I hope this storied company survives, but their own brand of oil? Not so much.
