I went to an antique store yesterday to pickup a table that my mom had bought and was looking around. Found this John Deere part and thought it would look good hanging in my garage (I'm collecting tractor memorabilia to hang in it). My mother decided to buy it for me for helping her, so now I'm just trying to find out what it would have been for. The tag they had on it said it was to a John Deere "seeder", but even the lady in the store didn't know for sure. I'm not worried about it being worth anything, I just thought it looked cool. There are what I thought to be part numbers on the underside of it, I didnt' know if anyone here could tell me anything about it.

It has the two legged deer on it, so I know its not real old. The second picture is the part number I found on the outer "ring". The third picture is the part number I found on the underside of the "disc." Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Was going to say a exhaust pipe flip cap, but does not appear to work that way. Why not visit your local John Deere shop and ask them? It's fun to look around anyway and they have the scale model tractors too. Or go to their website and look up the part number, or Google it.

Thanks Eric, looks like its definately a planter box lid. Does any one have pictures of what the whole planter would have looked like? I tryed a google search for those and couldn't come up with anything but the plater boxes themselves.

Yes, it's a hopper cover from a model 999 Deere two row planter.

The 999 was similar to this one.

Deere made them from about 1913 into the 1940's. There were a number of different logo's on the hopper lid.
