I have a very nice, though old, JD GX75 with a Kawasaki 9.0hp engine. This engine uses no oil & does not smoke, it starts every time & is perfect for my yard. I have used a good 30w oil & change it every year at the beginning of the season, should this be good enough or should I use something else?

Last season due to the drought, I only mowed 6 times, the year before 18 times & it is only 2 lots to mow.

One other question, is there a way to check the fluid in the trans axle as I have never found any info on this?

Thanks

I doubt it will matter much, the fact you change it every season probably means the engine will outlast the mower.

I have a 1990 Snapper and it just gets whatever 5-30 is handy. I'm sure it would do better on an HDEO, but what's the point? Sooner or later I'll have to buy something new but I doubt it will be because of the engine.
