What brand filters do iffy lube and these other quickie oil change places use? Does if vary based on what they can get in bulk, or are they consistent with a filter brand?

Usually the white ones. No name generic el cheapos normally. Which is one of the reasons I don't use those places. Same thing with the tire places that do $20 lof's. Even firestone uses quality Kendall oil but goes with a generic filter. After 5k my oil was black, not that color is a tell all. But after using MC syn-blend along with a MC oil filter the oil is a nice honey color. Even at 7500 miles the oil is a somewhat darker honey color. But still seemed nice.

So I just take my Toyota Matrix to the Ford dealer for oil changes. I think I will go 7k miles max though since I noticed a tiny bit of consumption during the last 500 miles previously. By that I mean a quarter of a quart.

Who makes these "generics?"

I believe Firestone's filters are Firestone branded Champ filters.

I work at Goodyear, we use Carquest Red/Blue line filters depending on the application. For German made vehicles, we usually get Mann/Mahle from Napa.

The local Jiffy Lube (where I'm required to bring my company-owned van) uses MileGard (MileGuard?) filters, which appear to be a bulk-sales filter made by FRAM.

Yeah, they are Purolators. I get my oil at FIRESTONE which is synblend 5w20 or 5w30 whichever I feel like, and a firestone filter for my civic or a 7317 variant, made by champ labs. My work; we use CHAMPION LABS filters, never a issue. Finally a post without a FRAM mentioned!

My son works at Grease Monkey. They use PowerFlo filters which is a Purolator Classic with a different label. The bulk "house" oil is Valvoline.
