They made a point of saying Jiffy Lube is owned by Shell.

Shell made a point of saying they are franchisees.

So much of our economy is based on unnecessary work.

I work at a store right across from a jiffy lube. I am amazed at the number of sheep go in and come out its like a heard of idiots! the education is why these things happen. stupid people will Always go there.

Jiffy lubes around here appear to have very little business. Seems like Every time I drive by one of their locations, they have one or two guys waving oil change special signs, trying to draw some poor old lady.

Years ago before flush machines Jiffy Lube would just suck out the old ATF and add new ATF, extra $$ if you wanted a conditioner. OK, thats better than nothing, but they never told you they only got 1/3 of the old ATF out.

Its one thing being sold services you may not need, its quite another paying for services you never received.

That would be great...

It's not "ALL" JL's that pull this crooked stuff. Unfortunately, the managers get bonuses for the more work they have done so they pull this [censored]. You also have lazy tech's who don't do the work they are supposed to.

One of my best friend's was a JL Manager and there was never any corporate policy about this stuff( i.e. how to upsell and rip off )and he ran an honest shop. Just like with any repair shop you go to it can be a good one or crooked.

Not at all defending these places but some of these reports are [censored] and designed to scare you.

1. This report was in LA, CA. A place where you use your A/C a lot. Wouldn't you know if it was not working correctly? If it was working fine and someone told me it needed topped off, I'd say "No."

2. The transmission fluid. Yes, there was no excuse for not pulling the dipstick and the "it's low and black" comment when they didn't check. But many car manufacturers say that color is no indication of the fluid condition and going by mileage the vehicle may need it. And if you just had it done...

3. No excuse for the battery [censored]. Or the air filter [censored].

I think the take away is to just let JL or other quick lube paces do nothing other than oil changes.

Not confined to JL, took the Fusion to the Ford dealer for a oil, filter and rotation. Filter not changed, tires not rotated and I'm not too sure about the oil. I was charged for all three and when I went to the service manager I was told they had "checked" those items and it wasn't necessary according to their "expert" mechanic...he looked to be 18. I told him it was outright theft and he said all Ford dealers did it that way.

It ain't confined to JL, watch what you pay for.
