Jiffy Lube or Wal Mart

I have been reading the horror stories about Jiffy Lube. I went to Wal Mart and the price for Full Synthetic with Fram Filter.
The price is $55 dollars. Is it a little low price, or a good deal?

Why you can do it for under $40 in 20 minutes or less and know what was really done to your car. Even at 80 I do my own.

Walmart wants you to buy dog food while you wait.

JL wants you to buy a new serpentine belt while you're there.

WM doesn't care if the TLE makes money directly, but they do care about not blowing up your engine. I'd give them the nod.

Neither. My local Indy mechanic does oil changes for $35 and doesn’t charge hazmat fees, recycling fees. He scraps the oil filters and old oil uses for heat in winter. China Mart and Iffy Lube will never touch my 3 vehicles.

My company indy does the same thing-$54.95 for 5 quarts of Service Pro Dexos rated full syn & a Service Pro XL (Service Champ XL) filter. Throws in a full rotation for an extra $20. Half the price of VIOC, Iffy Lube, and others, with a MUCH better filter.

I do my own work however I have had Walmart change tires which they did a piss poor job at doing.

A family member brought their car for an oil change and they didn't replace the drain plug washer and it was torqued tight it was crushed out the sides seeping oil. Another family member had their oil changed as well as air filter and they left a rag in the intake.

My suggestion avoid using these service places and do it yourself or find a local mechanic that you can trust.

Between the two, Walmart. While I've never personally been to a Jiffy Lube, I've used Walmart several times over the years and have never had an issue or problem. Just don't be in a hurry; they are not, nor ever have been, an "express" operation.

That's the price at the WM here too, $55 (up to 5qts). You get to pick between M1, Pennzoil and Castrol as well. The oil filter is a FRAM Drive I believe. Great deal.

I do my own, but years back, I broke my arm and leg and had to give in and go to WM. They did okay. My employer used to use JL. What a bad decision that was. We now use Valvoline for oil changes.

At the end of the day your beholden to the individual tech you get. No different at Walmart, JL or the Toyota dealer.

I have had tires done at Walmart and they were always done right, which is more than I can say for the local Firestone or Mavis. Given the options, I would take WM first. They seem to not push the employees for speed, at least here. That doesn't guarantee anything, but it sure doesn't hurt. There goal is for you to load your cart up walking around the store, so longer is better.

Walmart. I've actually had good service there in the past. Jiffy Lube is way overpriced.

Walmart might take forever, but on the flipside, you can do some shopping. I'd rather do that than sit at JL.

In other words, I'd rather some guy making min wage move at min wage speeds, but doing it more or less correctly, than some guy making min wage while under the gun to get people in and out--horrible of me to think that way, but hey, I just want it done right. Either place can screw it up but I think Walmart might be less likely and more likely to make it right if it goes wrong.

But if you have a local mechanic they might be willing to compete. I wouldn't rule them out. Might be worth a few bucks more if it builds a good relationship, after all, own a car long enough, eventually it needs something that neither place can do.

You might try buying your own oil/filter and asking your dealer what they would charge to change it. I’m sure it varies (probably a lot), but it’s rather cheap where I live.

My Honda dealer does mine, I supply 4 quarts of Mobil1 5W-30 EP (costs me about $28) they supply a Honda filter (about $8) they use a new crush washer, rotate the tires and do a Multi-Point inspection. They charge about $58. All done by a Honda Master-Certified Technician who uses a torque wrench and gets ALL the fasteners back in the under engine shield. Totally worth it, done right ️

Neither. I used to bring my own oil and have the master GTR tech change the oil on my Nismo Z for $30. Since then, I do my own on the FL5 and mercedes does my wife's car with prepaid service because she likes having the loaners.

I trusted the Wal-Mart near me until they stripped the threads on my oil pan and stuck in a Non-Metric drain plug which started to leak. I had to have my mechanic put in a Heli-coil/Time-sert to allow a factory drain plug again. It's your money.

$23 EZ valve is a GOD SEND!!! That or if im dropping off oil @ one of my clients he has his oil change crew do it for free

Makes it easy doing my 2500-3000 OCI's on my work daily driver Suburban/Crown vic

Neither, Wally World cross threaded a drain plug years ago on my dads friends car. They ended up eating the cost of replacement but it was a hassle to deal with.
