Just watched a report on NBC News where Jiffy Lube is changing there 3,000 mile OCI recommendation to a more taylored per vrhicle OCI, considering climate, driving habits, manufactor recommendation, ect. .... The Jiffy Lube rep hinted at an average of 5,000 mile OCI with 10,000 being the longest... He said they would complete the changes by the end of the year.... They used Pennzoil during their demonstration.....

Yep. The last 4-5 times I've been there they had the Toyota V8 to 5000 miles or 6 months on the sticker.

Sounds good in theory, but last time a gave an air chuck to someone that didn't know how to use one. They blew up the tire on their wheel cart.

A big step in the right direction, but they're still probably going to recommend following the severe service guidelines.
If you actually know anything about oil changes, then more then likely your not even going to a jiffy lube to begin with.
This also doesn't account for Synthetic oil or for customers who don't know what there driving habits are. For example younger people might argue there they don't drive there cars hard. When all the mechanic's that i know and myself included know full well that young women are the worst drivers. Not trying to be sexist, but they are generally the most aggressive drivers.

so nice to see people already assuming the worst. Manufacturers have specified long ago about the "service intervals"... they even have them programmed into the vehicle. Have they gone back to 3000 miles? NO! There still isn't anything out of the ordinary compared to previous "service intervals". There will always be those people who don't understand why you have to change your oil.
Very obvious they would not want to stay away from manufactures recommendations because:
If it is too short, class action lawyers would smell the blood.

The local Jiffy Lube, just about every day, has an employee out on the street waving a sign that says that they have open bays...no waiting. Some days the whole staff is there, 'cuz they have no customers. The last time I was in a time crunch and asked how much to change the oil with my oil & filter they wanted $39. I found the time.

I understand that certain people cant do their own changes but anything is better than Jiffy Lube and Walmarts. Ive only gotten my oil changed at a quickie shop once and it was the biggest waste of $36 ever. This was back in 2006 by the way. Back when a 5qt and filter of SuperTech cost you under $10!!! If for some odd reason I dont want to change my oil myself Ill take it to the dealer or an actual mechanic before a quickie lube place. I dont care if they are extending the OCI on their change because people should be listening to the car manufacturer anyway.
