On the Ranger, passenger side only, going down only. Yes it's under warranty and I intend to have the Ford dealer fix it for free but before I go I'd like to understand what causes this. It's done it since a few weeks from bringing the truck home, brand new, with 7km on it. Never had power windows in a vehicle before.

Please enlighten me guys, been totally happy with the truck and with Ford/my Ford dealer other than this and I'm sure they'll take care of me, just my "take it apart and figure how it works" nature speaking here.

if you google power window regulator, you will come up with different versions of this type of assembly:

An electric motor (gold, with wiring and switches), a gear interface (black) between the motor and next, cables/pulleys, that move the "window attachment" (rectangular) up and down on rails (long "metal things).

Problems could occur with any of theses systems. Or, your kids, wife, girlfriend, grumpy mechanic, etc. could have spilled some sticky food/drink down your window!

On most cars, they can be replaced easily by diy. E-bay has lots of cheap options vs. OEM.

Here's the you tube video for ford Ranger window regulator replacement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hz4YvxZWdk
