On the other hand, I'd never buy a Honda radiator ... expensive and fragile!

I seem to remember my dad paying something in eccess of $1000 for a new radiator for his Accord; parts and labor.

Its not the Honda dealer who sets prices fully but the price they pay to Honda Corp too for the parts.

I remember that I needed a new radiator for my supposedly infallible Honda before 150k miles(saw someone post that

). The Honda dealer(great one) called and said it was $660 alone for the part. They suggested an aftermarket and did the entire job for about $450 although no standard 1yr/12,000 mile warranty on part/labor.

The radiator for my 2006 Saab 93 is about $290. That's for an OE Saab radiator. Seems like parts costs for this car are actually pretty reasonable.

I own an 84 Civic and have had to look around for parts. I'm into things that don't normally wear out because I have almost 400k miles on the car. Use the internet and if one source can't help you ask them for their ideas and keep looking. Mark useful sites to be able to get back to them. I just put lower control arms on the car along with ball joints and found everything on the internet. Try the dealer if you want to see what's available but don't buy until you take some time to look at what you can find.

It's been my experience that internet OE parts dealers often have better, more experienced parts people who actually know how to use the system to find the parts that the local dealer claims aren't available (because they're too lazy and/or incompetent to know how to look them up).

For example, some old parts information is still on microfiche...a lazy parts guy isn't going to find any of those parts...

It really depends. The only way of figuring out who is reasonable and who is not is taking a standard sample of maybe 20 parts and pricing each to a total.

Ever inquire on a replacement Saab key?

Dealers are different too, here in Milwaukee the Toyota dealers often charge different prices for the same part. One is pretty good, and they will give you a discount if you ask - especially if you tell them it is the difference between buying it from them or going online. One of the other dealers is horrible though. They charge far more and are rude on top of it.

I paid $204 for an OEM Denso radiator for a 2005 Honda Civic, the local dealer beat Majestic price (parts price) on it. If I hadn't given them the on line price, they would have wanted $300 and given me 15% off.

Domestics can be just as bad.

My daughter’s 2000 Mercury Cougar had the driver’s side door lock mechanism jam up in the locked position. Its a combination lock/power-actuator/switches in one unit. Getting the door open was a real fun job… long story short, I had to cut the bolts holding the striker plate. In the process, the parts that needed replacement were the lock mechanism, the striker plate which has an integrated door light switch, the two striker plate bolts, and a gasket that goes between the striker plate and the door frame.

Guess which part was not purchased ( I fixed up the old one and reused it ).

(1) Lock mech ~ $120.00
(1) Striker Plate ~ $25.00
(2) Striker Plate bolts about ~ $5.00 for two
(1) Striker plate gasket ~ $98.00 … I’m serious!

And the stinking gasket is just a flat piece of gasket material similar to a thermostat gasket!

And… the bolts took two weeks to get because they are shown in the system as ‘obsolite’.

My guess is the manufactures slip some grossly over priced parts in the system that slip through on things like collision repair. If nobody catches it, they make a killing on parts that cost pennies.

Honda parts are exspensive? Try Cadillac parts, know that long light bar that runs across the back trunk with all the led lights, thats one light-one $450 dollar light. Thing is not that the parts cost so much, but if they cost that much, how come they ever wear out.

find out how much is one air housing bolt and then come back to me. at cadillac they prolly give it to you for free.

if dealer wants to be **** about it, then i will be **** too and won't come back to buy another car. how about that? they should really try to get customers loyalty instead trying to take advantage. they made 5 bucks but lost thousands. i don't really mind paying, it's just that i don't appreciate being ripped off.

About $75 and it doubles as a keyless remote. I think I paid about $50 for the keyless remote for my Ford.

Actually I just ordered a new key/keyless remote for $57 shipped. It remains to be seen how much it'll cost to have the dealership program it, though. I'm not going to get the key cut since it's not necessary for starting the car.
