My 1995 Jeep Cherokee at work has been retired. It left with 226,060 miles on the odometer and God knows how many on the engine with all the idling it did in it's 10 year run. It had 15w40 dino changed at 6 month intervals with Fram filters for 9 of it's 10 years. The last year it had Amsoil 15w40 synthetic in it and went to pasture with it. The engine was the original with no internal work done to it and it also had the original tranny with the original fluid and filter still in it. It did not have any trace of red left in it. Alternator, water pump, radiator, rear axels, springs and shocks and rusted floor boards were replaced and in the end rust was taking over. It averaged 10,000 miles per oil change and used the much maligned Fram extra guard filters. Still no engine problems. In its place came a 2005 Saturn Vue with V6 and awd. It will see Fram filters and what type of motor oil has yet to be determined. At present there are 2 grades of motor oil used. Amsoil 15w40 which is now used only for the diesel part of the fleet and in May of 2005 Amsoil 5w30 ASL was brought in for the gasoline vehicles. They are considering getting 5w-20 for these Vues and for 2005 Ford Focuses that were purchased for the meter readers. It should be interesting to see if this Vue makes it's 10 year run as well as the Jeep did. I'll be retired before it is.

What was this jeep used for? We use jeeps Cherokee's are the Prison I work at ro drive the perimeter of the facility. These 4.0's are rran and idled 24/7 and rarley turned off. They just keep running and runing. Now the rest of the jeep is falling apart but the motor still ticks..

I am an emergency gas supervisor for Con Edison in Westchester County, NY. The vehicle was used for traveling through the county (600 sq miles) to supervise crews responding to and repairing gas leaks. We work shifts covering all 24 hours, 7 days a week. The vehicle was never turned off in the winter (for heat) and would be left running when the roof lights were on at a work site. Many of these shifts were 16 hour shifts. The 4.0 was as strong as ever to the end but the rest of the vehicle was falling apart. The new Vue has a tough act to follow.

Mine won't be retired until I come up with the money to buy a Nissan Maxima, Nissan Altima V6, Accord Coupe V6 or a Mazda 6s..... so it still running in all its <15MPG city glory.

Commercial service is a tough life.

And the rumur keeps spreading that Frams are junk and your engine will blow up due to their use from the "analysis" of people doing nothing more than looking at the insides.....

Now, now. These guys are "engineer" types and they can tell these things.

Ya gotta love these 4.0 Cherokees. I recently 'upgraded' my 89 for a 96 Sport with 59K on it. It's like new in and out, and even has a Fram oil filter on it at present. They don't make them like this anymore.....

I predict you'll regret ditching the Jeep.
Maxima, Altima, etc.= sheep. Jeeps = goat, llama, warthog.

Eh, right now, I don't need the utility. I like the Jeep but with the things that are breaking (go read my thread), I just can't/not worth fixing the problems. I give up on it.
