JEEP liberty part time 4x4 issues

A friends 2004 liberty (she thinks 3.7 ltr) is having issues.
Her part time 4x4 light stays on when in 2 wheel drive, and when she puts it in part time 4x4 the light goes off but the mechanics of it are working.. ever heard of this ?, fixes, suggestions ? thanks

We need more data. Park it on sand when you think you're in 2 or 4 wd then punch the gas, see how many wheels peel out.

unfortunately this is a friend at work, never been in her jeep, probably wont ever.. she claims all 2x4 4x4 ect are all working as they should.. its simply the lighted stwitch giving her fits.. i told her i would post the question for her.

It is the position switch, a pretty common issue on these vehicles.

i have the same issue in my 96 Grand Cherokee.
i've put it up on stands and works as it should so it doesnt really matter to me that the wrong light remains lit.
