My little YJ is fairly stock, as I slowly build it up. Street tires, stock replacement springs, and a well running, but worn 253k mile 2.5L hooked to an AX 5 manual.

The Iowa Jeep Club had a show and ride, and I was amazed how capable this thing is!! A well equipped Gladiator was struggling in a bit of mud where I went through, no issue. I need more lift for rocks, but always had enough power.

What a fun vehicle. Plus we took my sons freshly built 4Runner. That is a capable rig!

I had an 89 with the 2.5. I promised myself that I would never own another 4 cyl jeep as long as I live. It was downright dangerous on the hwy as I could not keep up with traffic.

The 4 cyl is working so hard to keep up with traffic that it gets worse mpg than the 6 cyl under the same situation.

It was good on trails though and used little gas tooling around.

I avoid the interstate. 60 mph is hard to stay at if there is a headwind, unless in 4th gear. I’ll be driving this as a toy until Jeeps get more realistic in pricing. My Daily Driver is a Nissan!

Looks like fun.

While playing in the mud is a blast, I try to avoid it. Such a mess to clean up afterwards. But sometimes I can't help myself.

I also one time went splashing around in a bunch of mud puddles and took out my alternator and throttle position sensor at the same time. Barely limped it back home.

YJs are fun. They ride a bit rough but are true old school Jeeps. I like to think my TJ is the best of all worlds. 4.0L, 5 speed manual, old school look, but has a softer ride with the coil springs. The JK and newer Jeeps just feel strange. They are much bigger, and while softer on the street they just have an odd power band with the V6 and no low end grunt. The 3.8L V6 was a turd, and the 3.6L has decent power but it needs to be revved to get going, especially with larger tires.
