Just purchased a 2011 Wrangler and was wanting some suggestions/recommendations on oils and OCI. I plan on doing the first oil change at the 2000 mile mark, followed by two 4000 mile OCIs which would bring me to 10,000 miles. After that I'd like to go to 5000 mile OCIs from there on out. To be cost conscious I'm going to use dino and splurge a little on pure one filters. Being a brand new vehicle that I plan on keeping for a long time, does this sound like a good plan? I'll be running 60/40 hwy/city.

As for the oil, I noticed at Walmart that the mobile clean 5000 goes for around 2.77 a quart. Wow, I didn't realize that it was that inexpensive. I'm also looking at the motorcraft which is actually a blend. I'll use the factory recommended 5w20. Any preferances? Thanks in advance.

Does Walmart have MaxLife 5W-20 in the 5 quart jug?

That's what I'd run if it were me.

Motorcraft 5w20 would be a excellent choice.

I'd consider using Motorcraft 5w-20 blend. $14 for 5 qts at the Walmart by me...

I would run MC 5w20 or Pennzoil conventional for the life of the Jeep. (Actually I would run Pennz. Platinum,Ultra or AMSOIL XL but that's me) Mobil Clean 5000 is a great choice also it's a blend too. Any oil mentioned will keep the car running a long healthy life!

I run the recommended 6000 mile OCI in my 2010 Wrangler.

The Motorcraft 5w-20 at Wal-mart is the best bang for the buck IMO.

I'm currently using Mobil 1 0w-30. I have a couple oil changes worth I'm using up.

Then likely back to the MC 5w-20.

If I were running dino I'd use Pennzoil Conventional 5w20. Sears has it on sale this week, and it is very often a featured oil with a Purolator Classic filter. For another $2 some stores allow an upgrade to the P1 filter. Your strategy sounds like a good one! Good luck with your new Jeep!

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll go with MC 5w20 and the reason I'll go with 5000 mile OCI after the first 10,000 miles is because I think its safe and easier for me to keep up with...5,10,15,20,25...lol

That's what I'd run if it were me.
My Walmart carries all the grades of Valvoline MaxLife Semi Synthetic Blend. This is what I would use as well, but I'm biased towards it.

I have been running Mobil 1 5w20 in mine since 700 miles along with a Napa Gold 1516 wix=51516. Dont use a drop, not that it should and it remains clean at 5000. I am now approaching 9000 and will be looking in to my 3rd Oil change soon. I do have that loud ticking noise on start up when its real cold for a second but Ive been hearing its "normal". I just bought a brand new Jeep and am going to run the 5w30

for a number of reasons
One the 20 weight oil rage seems to only affect American manuals.
Two a 30 weight will thin down to a 20 weight fast enough

The motorcraft oil will do great in your jeep. The pure one filter is a great filter, but I've had problems with the ADBV not always working on them on my jeep. For some reason these engies are sensitive to the ADBV on certain filters. The ADBV on K&N and Mobil 1 filters almost never work on these engines. I've been using motorcraft filters from walmsrt on mine, much cheaper and a great quality filter. I believe they call for the FL910 but I've been using the FL400S, it has the same specs, its just a little bit longer. And if you have the automatic in yours, do yourself and install a transmission cooler inline with the factory one, the factory one isn't enough on these, lots of people have overheated their transmissions on them,a few have even boiled the atf out the dipstick tube right onto the passenger side exhaust manifold,causing it to catch fire, and the gas lines run along that side of the frame so you can imagine what happened after that.
