So, as most of you know; I'm a lil' backward with the times on some stuff. Finally saw the movie "Cinderella Man"

All I can say is I never heard of a man paying back his relief money in full. He lived a decent life after boxing I see also. We need more people like him

Cinderella Man is a great movie. In a lot of ways it's not about boxing, so your wife/girlfriend will like it too.

I think it is one of Russel Crowe's best movies...one I can't channel surf past. And what was the connection to Beverly Hillbillies?

When I saw the thread title my first thought was Colonel James Braddock of Missing In Action.

He was no Cinderella.

His rival Max Baer Sr. was the father of Jethro Max Baer Jr.

An excellent movie. I know that it's sometimes shown to high school social studies/history classes for what life was like during the depression. Neat to see in the follow up notes, that later in life Braddock's company helped build the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.

Paul Giamatti did a nice job as Joe Gould, Braddock's manager.

Ron Howard aka Opie Taylor, when it comes to directing and producing, is no slouch.

That's for sure.....he came from a different era....where people didn't feel so 'entitled'....

Yeah, the part where people are tearing off people's lattice or whatever it is over opening under porch for firewood is crazy.

My grandpa told me and brother the depression never hit our town cause there was always coal and the coke ovens near where they lived which was where my dad grew up.
