Actually any model year Sonata from '00-'05. X-Typers hate it when I park my '03 Sonata next to their Jags. I came out after some shopping to find a woman trying to open my Sonata with her key. When I pointed out that it was my car and that her car (also white) was probably the one next to it, she glared silently and then proceeded to enter her car and drive off. I suppose I should be thankful that she didn't "key" my car in retribution for my insolence at having parked next to her precious Jag-You-Are (or is it, "Jag-Wire"?).

If these "bargain" (and I'm not flaming here, either) X's are, for example, coming off a lease and you can get a reliable extended warranty (say, 7 years, 100K miles on a 3 year-old car with 40K miles) for a reasonable charge, it might not be a bad deal: probably cheaper for 4 years than the lease payments were for 3...
I just don't remember seeing any Jaguar Certified Used Car programs. Doesn't mean they don't exist, I just don't recall seeing any.

Ray, that alone is reason to buy a Sonata.
She arrived in a Jaguar, tried to get in a Hyundai and left in Huff.
The X series is awd because it's built on a Ford fwd platform and Jaguar didn't want to sully their image with a fwd car. To avoid that they added a minimal rear drive on the fwd chassis.

For a nice $28.6k car, Infiniti is dealing on G35's right now ($3,700 below MSRP). It's their final model year. Mine would be with a 6 speed MT, no AWD.
However, if you've got a lead foot, that 286 hp VQ might lead to a few problems here and there. Course, it'll be fun playing with the X-type Jaguars.

Subaru's are very popular in the Northeast. It likely one of the most dense areas in the US with this make. I will make a blanket statement about the Subaru drivers that seems to ring pretty true, Subaru driver go appropriate speeds for the conditions. I have yet to see a Subaru off the road in the last 20 years of my driving winter conditions in New England.
It also may be the type of buyer demographic, I'm not really sure.
On the X-type, its a very pretty station wagon. As a car it seems to blend in with the landscape but if you like it go for it.
Consumer Reports has reliability below average for the X-Type in their sampling.
Lastly, I will say that having AWD(Subaru WRX) and winter rated tires (Nokian WR's) gives you a nice feeling of confidence. I still however poke along if I venture out even under the worse conditions.
Sister-in-law has an x-type, they know I am a gearhead so one time when I was going somewhere with her husband we took that and he tried to show it off a bit. Nothing about it impressed me, nothing stood out as particularly bad either other than it is the size of a sardine can.

Top Gear likes the X-Type. The AWD system works well enough to work in snow... Search for the video on YouTube... the title is something like X-Type Estate. THe S-type is nice too. They brought the diesel version to the Nuregburg Ring in Germany and got it to go around in less than 10 minutes. The gas model should be quicker but all good cars.

The Ford/Jag V6 and V8 are both Mazda designs. Called the AJ30 and AJ34. V6 first appeared in the MPV? haha. V8 is VERY similar to the Aston Martin. Aston V12 is more or less 2 V6's.
Manual transmission (MTX75?) is a AWD version of the weird Duratec transmission, with 2 output shafts. Cool little transmission and it's got a 60/40 rear bias viscous center LSD, which is very nice.
And I'm betting that the chassis is a modified Mazda design. Or some Ford/Mazda one-off.

The Jaguar AJ-V6 did come off the Ford Duratec block. Jaguar did the heads and valvetrain. They are assembled at the Cleveland engine plant, I think.
The Jaguar AJ-V8 was a clean sheet design, done by Jaguar. The Aston Martin V8 (and Land Rover V8) are similar because they are derivitives of the AJ-V8, not the other way around. The Ford 3.9 V8 is also derived from the Jaguar AJ-V8.
The six litre Aston Martin V12 could be looked at as two AJ-V6's end to end. It has no similarity to the 6 litre Jaguar V12 which was last built in April, 1997, and was replaced by the AJ-V8.
I have a 03 Jag X-type. I love it and got it used with 10K on the clock, and now have 45K. Also have an 06 FX35. I would take the older Jag over the FX anyday. All these folks bashing the X-Type don't own or have never owned one. Mondo . Please give it a rest. Hyuandi ? Please.. My sister once said it kind of looked like her Hyuandi, I let her drive it to go pick up some pizza. Now she get's all straight faced when she see's that car. The inside is just about dead nuts as the S-Type and I don't like the front grill of that car. Plus the AWD works great for those that need to go in the snow. Now if you must have 2 wheel, just go for the XJ or XK, they can also be had for a song used. Ok maybe a S-Type R would be nice.
What I've read about AWD is that if one tire needs replacing, then all 4 tires have to be replaced. Something about having to have all the tread at the same wear pattern otherwise its puts stress on the transaxles. If this is true, I wouldn't want AWD.
Every Subaru is AWD. It's not a problem.
There is some leeway in this. If the tires are less than 50% worn, generally it's OK to replace just one. Alternatively, you can have that one new tire shaved so that it matches the other 3 in tread depth, although it would kind of suck to have to pay for a brand new tire and then pay some more just to make a used tire out of it. It'd be cheaper then buying a set of 4 new tires though.
All I know is that Jags kick butt in GT-1 racing.
The X-Type is a really nice Ford, if that's what you want. Buying used, you can get a really nice Opel, with a Caddy badge, and it's really RWD, and has a real German inline six. The car upon which the "Jaguar X-Type" is based is a step below the car upon which the "Caterra" is based , as well.
