I just bought a 94 xjs. Anyone have an oil suggestion. It has 50K miles. Should I autoRX? It looks like it has been maintained well.

Amsoil recommends 5W-40 with 10W-40 as the alternate.

You're going to be buying 11 quarts.

Run a quality synthetic and forget about AutoRx - JMO

I really like HDEO 15W-40 oils for these older technology style engines. Chevron Delo, Shell Rotella, etc. A much more robust oil in general than any of the PCMO 10W-40s, and in Texas the 15W-40 will be just fine even in the winter.

Havoline 5W-40 full synthetic from Big Lots would have been perfect, but I don't know if they have any left. It was only $3.00 a quart at the time.

I agree. I think that SOHC engine uses flat bucket tappets, so I'd use the 15w40 HDEO.

Thanks for the help everyone. As far as autoRx, it could take 1.5 years to get 3K miles on the car. Is it ok to leave that stuff in the sump that long?
