I'm wondering about the weight of my vehicle and the jack stands I have. I know this isn't an area to guess and skimp. I have a pair of NAPA 2-ton jack stands (rated 2-tons as a pair). My 97 pathfinder weights 4005 lbs on the title... just a hair over 2 tons.

I want to jack up just the rear of the vehicle. Less than 2 tons would be on these stands, as the front wheels are still on the ground, right? and same for the front, although this bears engine weight? I've never had a vehicle this heavy where this has been a consideration. Thanks in advance

That's correct, the full weight of the vehicle would be spread between the jack stands on one end and on the suspension/wheels/tires/ground on the other end, roughly in the same proportions while it is stationary (as the angle of inclination is fairly low).

FWIW, I would buy a set of 4 jackstands at a much higher capacity - 6 tons or so. They're cheap, much safer and higher-rated jackstands are almost always taller. Plus with a set of 4 you can double them up for safety.

my dad had a 1964 imperial, 5,000 lbs? early 80s. he dropped it on a pair of small stands, both kicked out and clasped. he went to parts house. bought a pair of walker stands 5 ton each. i said that was a lot of money. he said "how much is your life worth?" still have the 5 ton stands.
