Jack stand recommendations?

So there's a jack stand thread going on right now which led me to Google 'jack stand failures'. Now I want new jack stands

So who has recommendations for me? I took a look at Snap-On but would prefer to spend less. Is there someone in the middle between Snap-On and Harbor Freight? (And Craftsman is out, IMO)

I would prefer a tripod with a screw post with a pin style in 2nd place. I know I probably won't find a tripod (why don't they make tripod jack stands? three legs are more stable than four) and I won't get exactly what I want - it just has to be strong and trustworthy in the end, I guess.

I prefer something with pins too. No ratcheting mechanisms. The HF ones (or any other cheap stands for that matter) scare me because the cast part that the axle/ frame is supposed to rest on seems too narrow for my liking. For me, my axle tubes were too wide and they'd be sitting on top. At that rate, I'd prefer something that isn't cast either, but depending on your anticipated use, it should work just fine for you.

If you're afraid of Jack Stands collapsing on you, get these 12 ton stands only $155. They are used for mining equipment. Don't be cheap, whats you life worth?

Those Grey Mfg stands are top notch. They have several of them in the shop at work and they are very well made. Very heavy but worth it!

The gray and norco seem to have more of a 'V' shape at the point that interfaces with the body. Does this damage unibody vehicles?
 
JHZR2,

I assume the small "v" is there so that it's simply not a flat surface. They haven't damaged any of my vehicles or those that I've worked on over the years.
