The ultimate compound is the consumer version; M105 and M105 are their professional versions. From what I have heard, ultimate compound should be very similar to M105 which I love.

OTC (like at Walmart), you have two choices: Ultimate Compound (cousin of M105) and Swirl X (cousin of M205). You can get the Swirl X and do a test area.

Do not do the entire car until you are satisfied with your test area to be sure your technique and product meet your needs.

Add Scratch X 2.0 to that list as well, it does an amazing job of removing scratches and swirls when you use it with a DA polisher. In fact Scratch X 2.0 is more aggressive than Meguiar's #83 as well as more aggressive than Swirl X. It's only one step below the Ultimate Compound. What I like most about using Scratch X 2.0 to remove defects is the fact that it's so user friendly, it buffs off super easily, unlike most compounds which go rock hard and are a bear to take off.

Here is a Meguiar's thread showing the aggressiveness of many of their products:

Paint care is like oil. We all have what works best for each of us. I've been thru lots of paint products thru many, many years and finally settled on Griot's Garage products. I have found the Best of Show wax and his Carnuaba waxed to bring the best shine and protection on my vehicles and this includes 3 black ones. Using a DA machine with his Polishes followed up with BOS wax and carnuaba and I'm happy. NO swirls and a shine that is wet.

This is what works for me. Also - one old standby that STILL is awesome today and available over the counter, is Meguire's #7 glaze topped with #27 Yellow Wax. That #7 is awesome. I must also say that the NXT 2.0 wax Mequire's has out is a dissapointment to me. It does not last long.

deffinantly doesnt last long like claimed but it sure shines up nice. heres a question for everyone i mean no disrespect to your advice but why am i cutting and compounding my paint when its im very good shape and has no swirls scratches or even spider even in the birghtest sun?

You can always do a light polish to clean the paint and remove oxidation. It may also "level the clearcoat," which will maximize the amount of light reflected, which should improve the shine. At least that's what I've been told. Ask on autogeekonline or autopia for a better explanation, or I'm sure someone else can give a better explanation.

Because alot of people seem to think that the best way to care for your cars paint is to be grinding it off all the time.

That's why I like TW Ice, since it has no abrasives, it keeps the paint on the car.

If your car's paint is beat up though, then a quick run with KIT Scratch out (which is a very mild polishing compound despite the name) followed by TW Ice paste applied according to the directions will give you an awesome result.

Excellent point. If your paint is in the condition you state it is, then Yes you should not be "correcting" the paint. In that case, I would just polish it with Meguire's #7 because it doesn't clean paint - just creates high gloss. Then cover it with a pure wax (no cleaner-waxes) and be done with it.

If you paint is has no swirls and scratches in brightest sunlight, I am sorry, but you are in the wrong forum asking for advice. You should be *giving* advice to us. You should try to hang out at places where hardcore detailers hang out.

BITOG is for people discussing NuFinish, NOT for people who buy Paul Dalton's waxes :-)

hahahaha... ain't THAT the truth!

If your paint is really that perfect, you are definitely doing something right. The brand of products do not matter nearly as much as your technique and process. Only when you get those two down to perfection can you tell the differences between products.

It's kind of like novice golfers demanding a specific brand of golf ball when they can barely break 100, or a beginner guitar player not liking a certain brand of strings when they struggle with a simple blues progression. But, that a guy attitude for you; don't bother to tell a man he doesn't know what he's doing, even if its clear he doesn't. That's why I threw out all those suggestion - if you are the detailing Man, knock yourself out!!

If only Pennzoil made a wax then Nu Finish would be history here... SOPUS makes Black Magic brand.

And black magic does have an exterior wax, although its not too common to find.
