Sure then criminals will use $50 dollar bills. Sects of the population are great philosophers but lack real world experience and common sense.

The man is an full idiot, its bad enough to mess around with hundreds when buying a car or high priced item with cash imagine friggin around with 50's and 20's. They should bring 500 and 1K notes back.

When I lived in South Africa the largest note was 10 rand (roughly 10 bucks). Hard to rob a bank, or smuggle money out of the country. The piles of money at the Sun City and Swazi casinos were amazing. People would have many stacks of bills a foot high.

X2

There are more US $100 bills in use in markets around the world than in the USA. Keep in mind this is 'Printed' money ( no intrinsic value ). Failure to provide this means of commerce to the rest of the world would mean another currency would take it's place. FWIW

SA's crime rate suggests this tactic isn't very effective.

The author of the article actually meant "it's time to reissue the $500 note", for the sake of the the children, of course.

Were Krugerrands legal tender?

Did you hear about the place full of Rand that is being held in Zimbabwe? I guess it was a charter flight from Germany to Pretoria and there was a stowaway that was killed by the landing gear. I have to assume the South African government has the Rand printed in Germany.

The U.S. "makes" a huge amount of money by being standard currency.

How many $100 bills are lost and destroyed worldwide? That's $99.90 donated to the fed for each one.

Eliminating the $100 might sound like a good idea, but it's like eliminating little plastic bags because they are used to package drugs. It's going hurt people with a legitimate need far, far more than it will impact criminals.

No one is going to say "I'm going to stop selling guns because of the backache from carrying 30 pounds of currency."

Did you read the article? The whole point is they want to make it more difficult for people to buy large ticket items with cash to dissuade crime.

This was in 1978. Completely different situation.

If they got rid of the $100 bill what would Floyd Mayweather throw at the dancing girls?

They got rid of $500 and $1000 notes for the same reason, that worked out well. Cackling morons, honestly.
