It's new car time and I'm stumped.

I was always taught by my dad (born 1919) that a car is just " a chair that goes down the road." As long as the chair takes you where you want to go cheaply and dependably, that is all you need.
Did you listen?

My dad was born in 1928 and to him a car was an appliance like a refrigerator. So glad I didn't inherit that.

Want and need are 2 very different things.

All I need is a little econobox to drive myself to work. I'd rather have a V8 muscle car. In reality, I have both.

If you like cars and spending a little more on a car that isn't out of your means making you a bit happier, so what? I'm currently driving around in a Vauxhall Mokka hire car, which is so dreary and dull I've started judging everyone else I see driving one.

Its been a while, but one of the Top Gear shows analyzed Chineese knockoffs and showed the out of sight hidden ways that a Chineese vehicle was made at less cost by leaving out safety items. Apparently it was not designed to protect ocupotants during an accident as well as the base model the Chineese copied it from.

Things have changed, these days it's the Chinese manufacturers dominating the top scores in our crash tests.

I like the Volvo!

As do I, it's just the range. Is it worth 2 hours a week extra charging on my commute?

Being spoiled for choice is a nice problem to have.
A desirable ride at low net cost to you.
What's not to like?

I like having a nice but cheap car. Picking one is a huge issue for me. And waiting 6 months for it to be delivered is a huge annoyance. What if I decide I don't want what I've ordered 3 months in? :ROFLMAO:

It’s too bad the EV VW van doesn’t have better range. It could be a partner to your other van.

So I was offered a reallocation car in place of my hire car which I took delivery of on Wednesday.

The car is a 2023 Polestar 2 Single Motor Long Range. It has a 170kw (230bhp) motor driving the front wheels and a 78kWh battery giving a theoretical range of 409 miles. Whoever ordered this originally didn't like spending money as it's in the free white and cloth trim with no optional extras. But, it's only £69/month in tax with no top-up, so I may just keep it until it's lease is up in March 2027 instead of ordering something new just yet. I'll do a full write up once I have a few thousand miles under my belt.

Right now, I'm just glad to be out of my hire car.

Good luck as there is not a single car after 2020 that I would buy going forth from then. I detest driving a circuit board with an engine to move it. Never.

Temu Taycan is hilarious : )

Oops just saw the update on the reallocation Polestar. Now until March for 69 per month would be a bargain. I rented a Polestar here in the States and thought it was OK.
