They used babbit bearings in turbos years ago which were prone to coking and weren't as good.

That is such a line of bull feces. Today's turbos make way more power out of smaller impellers... Borg Warner, Honeywell, Turbonetics, Precision Turbo... they all will make way more power than any like-sized turbo of 20 years ago. IT'S JUST FAKE NEWS!!
