Not looking to do coding, and from what ive read Bimmercode isnt an option for me with iDrive 8 and 8.5. I'm primarily looking for service manual type information so I can perform routine maintenance. Seems like the only way to get it in the BMW world is thru ISTA. If I'm missing something, please advise.

My apologies, I misread and thought you were talking about Bimmercode. This looks like a great tool. I have a Foxwell NT710, and for ~ $ 250.00 it's not bad, but this looks to be better. One of the problems with the Foxwell is it won't allow you to go into transfer case service mode. I will look into this thoroughly.

There are ISTA downloads out there and we've done it (even bought a new laptop), but we're having trouble getting it to work and I was looking for alternatives.

Service information is in AIR. ISTA/D and ISTA/P are scan and program. Test plans for diagnostics are calculated inside ISTA/D. Access to AIR ISTA and anything else you would want is 32 dollars for 24 hours. In that 24 hours you could essentially print yourself a vin filtered service manual for your car
