Does your ISP usually provide the internet speed you pay for?

Is it worth what it costs you?

If your current speed was cut in half, how would your use of the internet be significantly changed?

How much speed would you like to have & how much do you think it should cost?

My own answers would be:
yes--yes--
if I went from 6 to 3MB, probably wouldn't stream video otherwise no

same as what I'm paying now. would like to have 12 down/1 up but the add'l cost isn't worth it to me (about $60/a year)

I have 768k dsl, and I get 768k.

Is it worth it? I think we pay $19.95, but the catch is that all the phoneline taxes and fees cause the bill to be $46, which includes a local phone service, but that's not saying much. Value = poor.

Speed cut in half? Makes no real difference for web browsing, which is sufficiently fast at 768k. Things like youtube videos have a small latency, my biggest gripe is uploading things like photos, which take forever since the 768down is far slower up.

For $46 (including local landline), I think we should be able to get 3-6M down and 1 up.

I pay $42.95/mo for Comcast "performance" which is supposed to be 12/2. I routinely get 20/4 or better, though I am using a DOCSIS 3.0 modem which helps slightly.

I've gone for several days getting 24/4, even.

For my remote IT job 25MPbps down and 5 up which is consistent using Comcast worth every penny $54 I pay.

Relatively heavy user:
We have very basic cable so kids watch Netflix daily(1-2 shows 1hr max some HD). I use Google Talk as my telephone over PC and Skype on iPhone via wifi.

My monthly usage on Comcast is 100-150GB apparently.

We have RR Turbo, which is technically 20/2, we regularly get 30/2 and once they upgrade the local CMTS and data systems we should immediately get RR Wideband, which is part of the Home Signature package. That will make it 50/5. I don't exactly know what we are paying for it, because it's part of that package, which total is $200/mo for Wideband, whole-house DVR with 2 boxes, and home phone. That price is going to drop down because I just got a job with time warner as an inbound-sales rep. Thank god for that.

Always. I am synched at 24/4 on VDSL2 and can pull 2.5MB/sec at any time, day or night.

Yes. I pay $74/month after taxes for unlimited Internet, plus home phone with unlimited long distance anywhere in Canada.

12/2 Would still be considered pretty fast for DSL. Things would take longer, but I don't think it would impact how I use what I have in any way.

I would love to have 50/50 (we have 58/58 at another site, much closer to the CO) but that won't happen with DSL. I'd gladly pay $100/month for that.

We have lots of competition here, and if you are not afraid of switching every 1 year then the naked DSL is a great value at $15 a month, otherwise $25.

Of course, nothing is of greater value than neighbors get together to split.

Around here:
Comcast offers 105/10 for $105 a month. I want it, but I really have no complaints with the 30/6 I already have. I think I am going to wait until I can (cheaply) run a fiber line right to the house and have 1g. Hopefully within 5-8 years. . . .

Overk1ll, if going from 24/4 to 12/2 wouldn't have an impact on you...what would you use 50/50 for and why would it be worth $100/month?

I'm saying it wouldn't impact what I do with my Internet connection. But it would make what I do take longer.

I can still run RDP, VPN, torrents....etc over 12/2 quite well. But large (50+GB) downloads won't be done overnight like they are now.

What would I use 50/50 for? Faster downloads

I'd need more storage though. As I'm running low as it is. And if you've ever run X over SSH, you'd appreciate why more bandwidth would be desirable.

I find speeds still seem limited by the server end with 24Mbps. My work does 700kb/sec at best on their VPN.

Google Drive is nice with 3MB/second and the best I have seen.
