I thought I saw that somewhere years ago. Their websites sure look the same. Anyway, the PCV valve I need is $5.99 at O but $8.68 at AA. There are a half dozen Advance within 10 miles but the nearest O is 40 miles away.
Isn't Orerilly the same as Advance Auto?

No. Two separate companies/organizations. O'Reilly's is based in Springfield, MO and has been for a long, long time. I believe Advance Auto is based in Raleigh, NC.
I have three O'Reilly's in a ten mile radius, and the nearest Advance/Carquest is closer to 15-20 miles away, quite opposite your location.

Paying 2.68 more to save driving 80 miles strikes me as a deal. This has made me a dedicated patron of the Auto Zone 2miles away.

If this is for the Sequoia get an oem one for same price if not less.
Advance will price match O'Reilly if they are the same brand.
Or find it online and see if it is cheaper if you can wait a few days.

My 1800 population town has O'Riellys , Napa and Advance Auto right next to each other. But given the vehicles that roam around Oswego county ... we need an Autozone too!
I always feel like any of them is trying to screw me if they force location before price.

Umm, DUH! I never said I would drive the 80 miles for the cheaper one, I just posted the price difference between the two stores. I just picked one up for $7.08 from an indy parts store 10 miles away.it will cost you much more than the $2 difference to drive the 40 miles

I remember both of those from when I Iived in CA. I think I have a Chief sticker on one of my tool boxes.
As already stated, Advance bought CARQUEST. O'reilly bought Checker Auto.
Autozone took over Chief too...

In 1992 I was working at a Goodyear tire store in Hesperia. Across the parking lot was a chief auto parts. We had the landers quake early. Then later that morning we had the big bear one. I watched the parking lot between us and chief move up and down enough that chiefs windows disappeared. When they came back into view they were all broken.

Good thing you weren't near all that plate glass at the time. I moved to CO in 1991 and lived in So Cal for 20 years. I don't miss the earthquakes one bit. We still have family out there, some in the inland empire, so we do visit every few years though.

Didn't know that. Never heard of AZ until I moved to CO and they were fairly new out here and quickly expanding, adding new stores all over.
Advance Auto Parts owns Carquest, Autopart International and Worldpac. Advance is the company owned wholesale and retail in most markets. Carquest is company owned in some markets and also the brand for independently owned stores.
