Well, I drive in snow all my life, live in that area so know few things. Of course, I turned on car like 30min before, vent. on cold to shut off small radiator, vent. off to prevent additional cooling. So we hit the road, and there is small hint of heating, however, first downhill, and it is gone. Then turn back to cold and vent on 1 to get some air to prevent fogging. No do, so turn on AC to prevent humidity, that worked while driving in gloves, hat, jackets and drinking slivovitza while driving. Once we hit flat area it was maybe -28 to -30, but car got heated up in like 10 minutes since there was energy that was released.
After that I moved car to 5W40 since 0W40 at that time was very limited. I think only Valvoline had 0W40 on market.

To OP SumpChump. If you're worried about oil composition, just use Mobil 1 EP 0W-20 which is supposedly 70% PAO. Even the AFE is around 30% PAO as far as anyone knows. In any case, you can buy them and use a rebate when the season is here...

As far as SuperTech syn, I would wager that at one time it had a dose of PAO as the Mag1 spec's looked pretty good with low pour points. No idea who blends it now. Maybe Citgo, region dependent?
