AutoZone currently has its 1-qt bottles on clearance for $4.00 each. Is Valvoline Extended Protection worth buying a few oil changes worth of it at that price, or would a more quality oil be money better spent at the cost difference?

Before this thread gets moved, I will create a post in the Sales/Promotions thread too, since this is bringing awareness of the sale. The main point of this post was to get some discussion on this oil for that price?

No. It's not a good deal, and I don't think it's a good oil.

It can't even handle 5k OCIs on a well-maintained Subaru.

$12.99 at my AutoZone but then it is in the high rent Zone!

Been running Valvoline Extended Protection since it became a thing in a 2019 Impreza base 5 door on 6k oci...couple of oil analysis thrown in has always shown it to be mo than adequate.

Now sitting at 100k using mostly Valvoline products. Just switched to Valvoline MaxLife Extended Protection High Mileage a few months ago.

Been running at least one Subaru every year for 40 years and all have made it to 150k+ using primarily Valvoline with some penzoil thrown in 30 years ago. They were in good shape when I trade around year 12 for all of them.

Two sides to every story

Now I wait for Valvoline Restore and Protect to be disrespected since Mobil has come out with their version to compete with it.

Good times.

What’s wrong with it? I’ve never used it myself, but I thought it was a good oil?
Please see my post here.

Her friend with exact same car, same engine, same location put off burning with Mobil 1 Extended Performance until 120,000 miles (double hers). Then he started burning at the same rate.

AMSOIL and Euro oils don't cause burning in these Subaru engines.

So I'd say a boutique > Euro > Mobil 1 Extended Performance >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Valvoline Extended Protection

I'd say it's probably on par with Supertech, but even people running Supertech seem to put off burning longer than with VEP.
