Is this the right B-12 (pic)

I have'nt seen any B-12 in the parts store I work at and at neighboring parts store. Then low and behold burried in the back room I found 7 bottles of B-12 Chemtool. I've read this B-12 is stronger then seafoam and a fraction of the cost (2.xx vs. 5.44). I want to make sure this is the right B-12 evey one raves about.

I'm not a petroleum engineer, but I would be careful using it in your oil. You might be better off using it in you gas tank. It's pretty strong stuff, be careful. JMO
 
Take a couple ounces of B-12 and pour it in a small glass jar like a baby food jar. Then take a small dab of wheel bearing grease. Put it in the solution and let it sit. Then tell me how long it takes to dissolve the grease. Very interesting.

Please do this outside.
 
59 Vetteman I didn't catch you're post soon enough. I already poured it in the tank and filled her up. So what was I supposed to see??
 
What I have found is that it seems to work good on fuel related gunk, but on bearing grease, it does not seem to react at all. The grease stays just like you put it in. It does not seem to melt it. They may have changed the formula since I did this test 3 years ago. But I quit using it totally after that. And I was a long time user.
 
So do you think it's worth it to buy the little stash at the store I work at (20% discount) or stick with sea foam? I’ll be moving so I’m stocking up a bit on items before I have to pay full price

Why should B12 Chemtool dissolve wheel bearing grease in a jar?

Atleast we know whats in the can:

Toluene 40-50%
methanol 20-30%
Acetone 20-30%
Methyl Ethyl Ketone 1-5%
2-Butoxyethanol 1-5%
Isopropanol 1-5%
Mixed Xylenes 1-5%

Because wheel bearing grease is a hydrocarbon product and I am using B-12 to disolve hydrocarbon buildup in the fuel, and hydrocarbon build up in the engine crankcase. Just thought it would be nice if it worked on this type build up. But as stated, it makes a nice paint remover.
 
Hmmm... looking at the chemical composition of B-12, I could almost make my own at home! I'm only lacking methanol and 2-butoxyethanol, a.k.a. butyl cellosolve or ethylene glycol monobutyl ether.

I wish I knew where to purchase straight 2-butoxyethanol...!
 
I don't add wheel bearing grease to my gas. The "its a hydrocarbon" argument doesn't cut it!

If you want to test it on any crud in your engine, dissassembly it and scrape away. Then, add the b12 or whatever product to the scrapings.
Also, in an engine, heat and movement are ingredients often forgotton during so-called bench testing. Add heat and movement. I bet that with some heat and stirring, the wheel bearing grease might just act differently.

I cleaned plenty of car and motorcycle carb's with solvents. The fact that wheel bearing grease didn't dissolve, doesn't mean my carbs weren't squeaky clean when I was done.
 
Heck I got suckered into a more expensive bottle of B-12 (total system) cleaner. Total waste of mone in my opinion.

Just spray some water down the carb or into a vacuum line.

PS all that smoke coming out the tail pipe is nothing more than the product burning during combustion...doesn't mean it's doing anything.

I don't add grease to my fuel either. However, looking for a wheel bearing cleaner after wiping all the grease off, we experimented with many chemicals. All were at 95 degrees ambient, 12 ounces of fluid and one metal coffee can. Agitating the bearings by hand very briskly. The number one loser was B-12. The very best was diesel fuel. (We did not use gasoline) In fact the B-12 was so clean, I just poured it in my Suburban after the test. Sorry, way off topic, maybe a whole new question in Mech, which is the best wheel bearing cleaner. I now use diesel fuel.
