Because there is no Skylake mac mini yet, im thinking of upgrading my 2005 G4 mac mini that I use for some basic surfing and mainly as an archiving machine. its in my basement, is only used sporadically, and since there is no skylake mini, and the 5K 27" iMac running skylake cant do target monitor mode (to act as a monitor for another computer), Id rater wait to buy a replacement computer for this application.
Perhaps a 32-64GB ATA SSD for like $50 (the archives are done externally), and 1GB RAM would work well to upgrade the machine and speed it up a bit, as recently it has been running slow, and I do tax the RAM quite a bit.
So... the recommendation from Crucial is:
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/mac-mini-%28g4---1*42ghz%29/CT431640#productDetails
But on Amazon I can get a PC2700 184pin DDR 1GB piece that is Crucial branded, with prime shipping, for like a third of the crucial online price. It is this item (link from the crucial site for the same part nuber so we are sure the specs are official):
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct12864z335#productDetails
It seems that these are the same item. They are both CL 2.5 and both are 2.5V and 128Mx64... But I don't know what I don't know, so was hoping someone could shed insight...
Thanks!
