Is this a decent price for this Dell laptop?

I ordered a Dell laptop last night and curious for feedback on pricing (still can be cancelled). I'm looking for something with good build quality, Windows, and as big of a screen as I can get in a laptop. I'm just using it for web browsing.

Precision 7780
Core i7-13850HX
17.3" UHD 3840x2160
32GB, 1x32GB
1 TB SSD
Windows 11 Pro

$2,153

Should I keep it or cancel?

It’s spec’d well and definitely prob one of the largest screens you can get in a laptop, but pretty overkill for just web browsing. Months ago I’d say it is expensive but with memory and flash storage prices these days; it’s probably in the ballpark.

Big time overkill for web browsing, but that screen resolution sounds really nice!

Edit: I just realized this is my exact work laptop so I can give you a first hand opinion. It is a BIG, relatively heavy laptop that gets hot when running the apps I need for work. The screen is nice but I can't say it looks any better than others in its class. If I was only browsing the internet, it wouldn't be MY first choice, but I'm a Mac user at home.

did you spend 300 for the upgrade from 256 to 1024GB storage?
IMO: UHD at 17" you have to turn the scaling way up and windows is not great at it.
That's a pretty decedent laptop.

you can find nice ones starting about 1k.. OLED screen would be a must for me at that price level.

overbuying ram (16GB should be plenty) when its $$$$$ right now is also maybe not the right move..

TL;DR nice laptop but not $2200 nice

Not a dell precision but $1300 with OLED screen

Why need a justification from BITOG?

I've worked in a dell shop for 15 years, we spec those for engineers, but with smaller screens.

You are paying retail price, and getting full warranty.

Precision is my favorite Dell line.

I'm too cheap so I buy ones for my home use on Dell Outlet or Dell Refurbished.

If you plan on keeping the laptop for years, it's fine. However you will hate traveling with it, so hopefully it will just stay on a desk for your usage case.

The only spec that isn't really great is the graphics, usually Nvidia or AMD is better for graphics, your list didn't even mention how much VRAM is included.
You said this is just for web browsing but likely you will also want to watch 4k videos on a large screen, so this will ably handle that application

You guys are all raining on my parade but potentially giving me the reality check I need.

Currently I have a 15.6" Latitude with an i5 processor, think it's a gen 8 - I'm not near it at the moment. 16GB ram, FHD display. It does everything I need. I've been eyeing up a Precision for a while, but they always seem to start around $3k.

I was looking forward to the larger 17.3" display and UHD graphics. Of course the faster processor and additional ram would be nice.

None of the 16" displays interest me, anything larger is tough to find and $$$

I'd love an 18" gaming laptop but they start around $3k

Check HP laptops as well, I got my wife one at Costco a few years back for about US $1000, i7, 16gb RAM, 1tb SSD, 17" touch screen, back lit kb. She likes it, it's plenty fast for her and she often works off that screen only.

K. Good luck.

RAM prices are soaring bc RAM manufacturers-Micro, Samsung, SK Hynix-are shifting production to high bandwidth memory 4 (HBM4) that is used by AI chip manufacturers (TSM, Intel).

Why not get a desktop computer and large monitor? You won't be traveling with that large laptop will you?
