Our 97 Tracker is currently using FP and Auto-rx to help clean things up. I suspect the tracker is heavily carboned up since the previous owner(my neighbor) just used it for around town stuff and drove slowly. I want to run some more MMO through it in shock dosages and possibly Amsoil Power Foam. I don't want to get it all drugged up on too much stuff but the Tracker at highway speeds you can smell the carbon burning off. At steady highway speeds, the smell is consistent and does not get anymore worse nor better. It is due for an oil change in the next couple hundred miles or so. I want to take advantage of this to the fullest but here again, I don't want to drug it up too much.

I was thinking of keep using MMO in shock treatments and when time comes to change the oil, I possibly will use Amsoil Power foam. What do you guys think? Thanks,,,,AR

This gets me thinking, the first time I used LC I put it in and drove to work, which was about a 25 minute drive and when I got to work I got out and it smelled like I walked outside to a gas station. There is no gas station within a mile of work... I just thought it was the solvent portion of LC doing it's work and on the way home I opened the hood in the garage and no smell, even checked the dipstick, oil was a slight bit darker so it must have cleaned something out but it smelled normal on the stick and didn't give any red flags to me. After looking and smelling the can of MMO that I have in my basement, I couldn't put that in my crankcase and if I did, I would never do it more than once, that stuff seems way too much like kero in a can, but at a smaller dosage. The Auto-Rx should have it pretty good, the amsoil power foam might not be a bad shot but I'd skip the MMO.

Airborne ranger, I can't help but think that since the main purpose of oil is to lubricate that everything that goes into oil makes the oil ever so slightly less effective, especially the kero-in-a-can motor flushes. Other products like LC and A-RX seem great because they don't disrupt our engines wear according to UOA results. I'd say if it needs cleaning go for it, if it doesn't a synth. can keep it clean or clean what might be left but i'd have to say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." What you are doing doesn't seem really bad but I'd say don't get into a habit of cleaning it.

I'd throw a bottle of Redline SI-1 or Techron in the tank. MMO seems great for keep clean/lubrication and not as strong for quick cleanup.

Ive found MMO in shock doses yields statistically significant, large drops in MPG in my BMW, compared to when using no adds or FP.

Dont know if it means anything...

But Id watch dosing it too hard. Go with techron, Regane or FP shock dose.

good points MN Driver... Interestingly, Ive noted "gasoliney" smells after putting my BMW away hot, since Ive been using fp/lc. UOAs are coming out great, so im not worried.

Ahh, good to here nice UOA based news on MMO, makes it seem okay. It sure smells like gas and seems thin as gas so I couldn't imagine putting it in. I'll be using LC instead of MMO no matter what anyway however.

I noticed the same thing, but when I returned back to gas-only, or gas+FP, then mileage climbed back up, and the benefits of the mega-dose of MMO remained - better starting & smoother running. I have to imagine that the combustion chambers are cleaner, too, after seeing Gary's photos of his minivan motor.

Thanks guys, all good points made. I drove the Tracker once more tonight to run a few errins and it stalled on me at a stop sign. It does have a tendency to idle really low, almost to the point of dying but that's another ballgame. Wonder how well LC would do in gas? I know there's a few threads about it in the past so I'll be searching,,,AR

Hmm, not smart. Toluene here I come! j/k. While I'm sure FP has ample cleaning power, I'm looking for something that can really get in there and clean crap up,,,,AR

I've used 32oz of MMO and ATF combined in a full tank in my VW and notice no loss of mpg's whatsoever using up the tank.
