there is a MUCH better pic of it somewhere without the stupid Dollar store graphic over it. It was in this same topic, a few months ago.

Blumurder Bit of a silly question I agree but is there a brand that is a "stay away from" brand Quote: No there isn't. CATERHAM you wouldnt STAY AWAY from Super XXX Motor Oil with the C4 Corvette? [IMG said:

Any 4718M spec? The last time I checked the 10W-40 grade wasn't spec'd for the C4.
Sounds like the perfect oil for my 1969 B&S lawnmover.

No there isn't.
Next question?

What about that enviro brand you get at Canadian Tire (or used to be able to get) for like a dollar?

Yes I've bought it and used it in the past when it was 99 cents a litre.

Quote:
Firstly, NOT ALL ACCEL IS SA-RATED!! Accel sells SM-rated, modern passenger car motor oil at Big Lots and it looks decent.

Secondly, I believe their SA-SF oils have a disclaimer that discourages using them in a modern era passenger car. But it's been a while since I checked.
Since the intial post specifically says "ACCEL brand SA" motor oil and no other Accel product, the rest is immaterial to my answer.

The later point that was asserted, is that only oil that doesn't meet spec is bad oil. My point is that an oil that has no spec (SA) to meet, even labeled as such, is still [censored] oil. The fact that it's labeled doesn't change that, IMO.

Well [censored], I guess my vehicles are DONE!

2001 F150 - RL CV-2 in upper & lower ball joints/u-joints/wheel bearings, RL D4 in PS system, D4 in trans, RL 75W-140 in the rear end, RL 5W-20 in the engine.

1999 Mustang - RL CV-2 in lower ball joints, RL D4 in PS reservoir, D4 in the trans, RL 5W-20 in the engine.

Can I expect problems?

Now that's better. It is your opinion based on price more than a blanket statement made earlier. That sounds much better.

I think you could argue a non-detergent oil is in fact "bad" and detrimental. Or you could argue it isn't bad, it just doesn't have the "extra" to make it run "good"...

non detergent oils are for a totally different application, which they are perfect for. for example, you ONLY EVER run SAE 30 non-detergent in a vintage vespa crankcase. put anything else in them and you are asking for trouble. the product has it's role.

You make a good point.
But I was inferring from his question (and the section it is in) and sig that he wasn't asking about oil in Vespa. I don't believe non-detergent was always for scooters either, so that's all I was going for.

There is no such thing. Their basic oil, 'Autolab', is $3.49/quart, and is API SM/GF-4 rated.

It's a basic version of Formula Shell dino - hardly a 'bad oil'!

:P

true. it is for engines with no filters and wet clutches and such. i would never put SAE30 non-detergent in a car, but it has applications that it is perfect for. calling it bad because it is for a totally different application is pointless.
