I just switched to Mobil 1 EP in my wife's SUV. Is there an oil filter that will last that long, or will I need to change it every 5K as usual? Thanks for any info.

What SUV and Engine Size? X 2 eeeeh?

Amsoil has a eao oil filter that is guarenteed to 25000 miles normal driving & 15000 miles severe driving.Check their site

If this is your first time going with such a long OCI, I would not go over 10K on Mobil-1 EP without a UOA first. Motorcraft, AC Delco or Purolator filter will go 7.5K. Drain a little oil at 10K & have it analyzed. If the results are not favorable, change the oil.

I think Amsoil is a little too proud of some of their products. 25K on a filter, even under ideal conditions leaves me cold. I hope it's constructed better, that the *** foam air filter they sold me.

With the price of some very good filters very decent, I would happily throw a couple on, if I were opting for really long OCI's.

Sometimes I wonder if people changing filters so much are actually cutting them open to check their condition and see if anything is really in there. In terms of lube system function and oil breakdown, even the best full flow filters are nothing more than a coarse strainer in a healthy engine.

Peace of mind is great, but it gets to be bit obsessive compulsive, at some point. It's almost something like stopping at every other gas station putting 5 more gallons in just to have the "peace of mind" you'll never run out of gas.

OTOH, keeping that demand high is probably good for the economy and holds prices up to where the oil filter factories can make a good profit.

Any quality or boutique filter should have no problem going the 15k or 1 year just like the oil.

How many miles does that Mountaineer get driven in a year?

We are looking for a beater for my wife to drive for work. She puts about 3-4K a month right now (mostly highway) on the SUV with all of the traveling she does for her job.

If it was my vehicle, & I ran the same oil for 15K, I wouldn't hesitate to use a standard Motorcraft or Wix filter for 15,000 miles, especially when driving 3000-4000 miles/month.

I think it's best that your wife drive a most reliable car even if it's depreciating the vehicle faster.

SUVs have depreciated in price so much over the past year due to MPGs, it's not worth getting a beater. JMO

Good luck with the decision you make.

I say beater, I mean a ~5 year old 4 cylinder. We are looking a Honda Civics or Nissan Sentras right now. With what she gets paid for mileage, the car will pay for itself and we don't haave to abuse the family car. To bad we don't all fit in my Camaro.

.445 cents a mile x 3,500 miles a month= $1557.50 a month just for reimbursement! WOW if you get a small 4 cyl that can get 30 miles per gallon that is 117 gallone of gas at a cost of about $2.25 national average that is $263.00. $1557.50-$263= $1294.50 in profit each month! You could have that cheap 4cyl paid off in a couple months and have a few lobster Dinners!

I would use the Amsoil. It is all synthetic, so you do not have to worry about degredation of the cellulose in the Mobil 1 filter.

Mobil 1 EP = Part Synthetic Filter
Amsoil Ea = Full Synthetic Filter
