Is the newer Ford 2.3 ecoboost a good engine?

Overall yes they are good. I would not hesitate to get one if I needed a vehicle that came with one.
Yep. Only downside to them is intake valve deposits, but those don't seem to be causing any issues in the higher mileage ones I've noted.

A few have been noted to have fuel dilution, but what GDI doesn't. I never had it in my Ranger, but I made sure to work the truck hard towing our camper.
My opinion is that the 2.3 is a real sweetheart of an engine. Maybe even better than the 2.7. I miss mine.

The 2.3 is one of the best Ecoboosts, and it never had the coolant issue, that was mostly the 2.0 and some years of the smaller ones.
I should have added. They can be a bit 'tappy' though. Their GDI pump and injectors are just loud. Doesn't denote a problem, just don't expect Lexus quiet out of the little thing.
I agree, it is not a quiet or refined engine. I have an early 2.3 in my 2016 Explorer. I think mine has the weird coolant slits between the cylinders, but this engine in the Explorer isn’t really noted for having issues. Overall it’s a good engine. Makes great power, even on 87. I had to do a water pump on it last winter, and it was crazy simple.
