Is Mobil1 a group-III oil and not true PAO?

Most standard oils these days are made from Group II or II+ base stock to meet the API-SL and ILSAC GF-3 specs. Ken

I think he means "No effin' Way" [Big Grin] And I agree. It was first rumored that Mobil 1 SS was Mobil going the route so many other mass market synthetics have, the dark Group III path. However, this is not the case. It is still a PAO & ester blend (Group IV & V) with an improved barrier package over the marginal Tri-Synthetic. --- Bror Jace

A lot of people care what it is made of, I currently believe that GIII oils are better than PAO's in SOME applications, specifically my Nissan motor.

No single base oil offers un-matched performance. To create a well rounded product, you need to bring in different base oils to bring in different performance characteristics.
I thought Lakespeed Jr. from JGR summed it up nicely.

Mobil 1 definitely uses a PAO and ester base oil, not a group 3.
How did you confirm that? I believe Mobil's evasive answers along with the spectrograph evidence strongly suggests that some grades of Mobil 1 do utilize some Group III in the base oil blend.
