Is it true, Americans don't.......

I had to Google search an electric kettle. My roommate has something similar to that. I only have a porcelain kettle that I use to make green tea. An electric Stainless Steel electric kettle would be cool.

Would it not be more quicker and efficient to have a heating element immersed in the water (as in an electric kettle)?

I use one, but that's a homage to my Asian tradition.

Most American that want hot water use microwave instead of a kettle. Usually you have to go to an Asian supermarket to buy one, and they aren't cheap ($60-200) depends on quality.

thought they were standard.

i can see if you have a gas supply stove maybe a stove kettle would be better.

I have one of those as well. It uses less than $2 in electricity per month, while keeping water hot 24/7.
