Is it safe to run ARX (cleaning phase) for 3000miles instead of 1500miles?

I used fresh dino Toyota 10w30 at the start of the cleaning phase. I intend to just change the oil filter at 1500miles and continue to use the oil until 3000miles. Then do a UOA and see how well this oil performed. Any danger?

There is no danger. I have done it before. I believe that it is even recommended if you have a problem with your seals.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

My personal theory on why oil suddenly gets black after x number of miles is that the filter becomes full, change the filter and you give the AutoRX someplace fresh to dump more grime. You are however also diluting the AutoRX concentration in the crankcase so I would not do this too early in the cleansing phase. The topup oil will also help keep what is in the crankcase in good shape.

Keep in mind that it is generally reported that in the clean phase not much happens. It is the rinse phase that all the crap gets "released".

Change the filter, keep on rolling.

But please, for the love of god post some pictures of what is in the filter.

No one seems to do this.

It is not good to keep oil filled with contaminants flowing through a filter probably pretty full of contaminants also for an extra 1500 miles. So why do it ?

Ken, that's just a waste of money for a UOA.

It will come back with high metal which you won't know if it's wear or cleaning.

It will come back with high insoluables too.

I ran two auto-rx cleaning treatments for 3000 miles each. This was because I threw in auto-rx, went to GA, drove around, and came back. =) 1 week...3300 miles. I'm sure it wasn't the best thing for the engine, but it's better than not cleaning it.

I would follow the instructions from the ARX people. The only way that I would run 3000 miles is either in a fairly new motor, or one that has already received a thorough and proper RX treatment and rinse.

Do a UOA after you have run a cleaning and rinse, on the first 3000 mile run afterwards.

I had a similar question regarding the mileage on the cleaning phase..I have a motor that has 164,844 miles on my '99 4.3L chev blzr and just started the cleaning phase.

The oil currently has 2300 miles on it, so I put a fresh AC-Delco PF52 and dumped in the auto-rx and have about 150 miles on the phase.

I am thinking well if 1500 for cleaning phase is good, why not 3000 for a real cleaning...maybe I can save my second bottle for ongoing maintenance phases....

After reading this, though as Frank puts it...why drive with crap in your oil...get it out of there and do a rinse...so I think at the moment I am convinced that the instructions remain the best direction....

Decided to send in a UOA on my cleaning phase since this came up.

I'm lazy and it's car #3 in my stable so I don't drive it much. I got back from GA on like March 4th or something and have only driven it once....

Anyways!

3569 miles on Supertech Synthetic 10w30.

17 ppm Iron
4 ppm of Alum

Viscosity 11.0 cst
19 ferrous debris

The only that gets me is the 12 ppm of sodium! I understand the 15 ppm of silicon since I just replaced my intake manifold (a day before the trip to GA) and used RTV on the gaskets. But where'd the sodium come from?

Long story short, 3569 miles on my 2nd auto-rx cleaning phase certainly didn't ruin my engine, but I'm sure it would have appreciated me draining it while I was in Atlanta.
