I'd do a happy dance if mine were only $300 a month!

It's increased in cost every year since the inception of heath care coverage. Most of us were lucky to not have these costs passed on to us (by our employers) until about 10-12yrs ago.
I'm lucky enough to *only* pay about $300/mo for my family plan, but I have to meet a high deductible before things are fully covered.
Ours went up as well. We had the whole family (5) and we paid right around $300 (before Obamacare). Had to drop the 3 kids and dental. We pay $500 a month now.
$300.00 a month is a bargain. I pay $468.00/individual coverage. It actually went down by about $200.00
No....I don't get a subsidy.
BTW-it's really hard to compare. You will see widely different rates for the West, Southern U.S., and East Coast. Then there is deductible and coverage. The South will have some of the lowest rates.
It sure is. When Obamacare passed we at work all saw an immediate 35% increase. Now, (as of 1st October), they will be dropping our PPO for an HMO with worse coverage, and my rates will increase an additional 50%. I will now officially be able to buy similar private insurance for basically the same cost as what my employer offers.
Healthcare costs overall increase by 7-10% a year, and health insurance is not far behind. Future healthcare costs now are the single biggest threat to an affordable retirement.
