Is having a Large OIL Stash a sign of ......

When I can get top notch oils for next to nothing, I take advantage of it. It seems foolish to pay more if I don't need to. It has nothing to do with "hoarding."

If it was hoarding.. no-one would tell.

Last time the shipping was a fixed price up to (IIRC) 15 kilo's or something like that.
So I bought a case of SSO.
I still have 5-and-a-bit quart left.
Not a real stash, no hoarding.
If I was I hoarding I would go like "Oil.. me? ...

I relate hoarding to gathering food. We still have the instincts. Having a good stash of oil implies you would have a good stash of food if you were still a hunter-gatherer.

Stoneage women loved men who had lots of food. Modern women love men with lots of oil? Not so much.

I am very frugal and only buy quality oil when I find really good deals. It's strictly about saving money for me. I have 14 gallons stashed right now and 30+ filters.

I change for 4 cars, 2 push mowers, tractor mower, and an ATV.
I stock up when I see sales, pretty much buy when things are on for 50% off. No point wasting money paying retail when you need it and it's not on sale.

I don't care to have oil sitting on a shelf longer than I would let it sit in my car, so with oil, I don't intentionally buy too much just to let sit.

Since *PLANNING* is the word of the day, I *plan* ahead before I change my oil the next time. Woo hoo!

Oil, filters, some on sale household stuff, food and components for making ammo. (since I shoot a lot)

Don't have dozens of unopened t-shirts or socks..

Who here fondles their oil/filter stash?

you know reorganizing your stash or checking out a label. Maybe you get an itch to change oil so you go and mess with your stash.

My name is Texan4Life and I'm a stash fondler

I don't hoard. I have 3 Oil changes now worth of oil. One is coming up in about a month. The other two will be used up within a year. When I can get full synthetic stuff like QS Ultimate Durability and Valvoline SynPower for about $1.50 a quart, you would be a fool not to buy it.

I keep up to a couple of oil changes stashed and do buy on sale. So often the oil produces come out with a better product or a new spec is out and then what good is stashing 3 years worth of oil. Even if I can find my $22/5qt jug on sale for $10, the amount saves per year is minuscule compared to fuel cost.

Yep!
When one of the four cars is do for an oil change, I have the correct oil for the temp range encountered during the run, and an oil filter sitting and ready to go.
All bought cheaply.
There is no sin in buying ahead.
It simply planning.
An oil change is never a surprise, nor is needing shampoo, laundry detergent or toilet paper.
Planning does save you money, when you take advantage of very favorable pricing on items you'll certainly use.

I stock up a little bit when oil is on sale, but not too much on the filters. My wife looks at me funny 'cuz I have two filters now on my nightstand. She asks why I don't keep them in the (unheated) garage. I told her I don't want to put anything that may have rust on it on the engines...

When you are paying next to nothing for an item you are fond of (and will use) there is no vice in that.

I mean, all it really costs is the storage...

I've made some good purchases, inc semi and full synth Superflo SJ at $.01/q, but my best buy was 80 GALLONS of Delo 30 for $1/g.

It went fast. I only have about 20 left.

LOL....I have to deal with the looks too....Every fall I move my shelf and stash indoors to a spare bedroom cause I dont want it out in the unheated garage. I think it looks nice in the corner, others disagree.

Very clever!
A simple goal in managing your personal finances is that you should never pay retail for anything.
There are too many deals out there.

Those are two completely different environments. Sytnthetic oil sitting on a basement shelf will last for many years. Not sure your rule of thumb makes any sense.

I buy my oil on a as needed basis.

Just wondering.

Is asking the same question about stocking up on oil in the largest oil forum on the web exactly once a year a sign of trolling? Just wondering.
