Terry what other top of the line synthetics are bad at resisting fuel dilution?

Does anyone think that running thinner oil, allowing the engine to warm up more quickly, helps with fuel dilution?

My last UOA with Motul 5W30 showed .5% fuel dilution while previous winter used oil analysis on GC showed 1 and 2.3%.

My daily drive is 5 miles.

I can't speak with authority, but I reason that if parasitic losses are reduced with the use of a thinner oil, that the power required to overcome them ..or rather the reduction in that power required, would result in less fuel being used over the duration of the warm up event (simple enough to reason, right?).

So,(as I reason it) ..sure ...now whether it can add up to that much reduction in fuel dilution ???? You've got me swinging

Other factors may trump the avoided losses (injector cleanliness, fuel mapping, etc.).

Dennis, are you sure? Your UOA shows the following:

Flashpoint: 370 380 380 385 365 395 [>365] [>385F]
Fuel %: .5 TR .2.3 .5 1.0 .5 [
Looks like this is a Blackstone UOA, in which case Fuel dilution is estimated (not measured) from the Flashpoint, which is an open cup measurement. I'm not sure I'd put any stock into those fuel dilution percentages. If you want a truly measured fuel dilution, you should use Terry's service. His closed cup flashpoint measurements are very accurate, and his fuel dilution measurements use FTIR.

Sorry, that .2.3% is a typo and should be 2.3%.

Yes, I've considered using Terry. I was thinking of having him just look at the Blackstone report instead of a full analysis since my summer fuel dilution isn't that bad.

Ok, gotcha.

Is RLI Super Duper RS4 Dysonized 5W40 the best oil to fight fuel dilution? I suppose Terry would let me know if I get an analysis.

Dennis, work with Terry and follow his advice to the letter. He will give you the best solution for your car. If he says to run ardvark5000 super blend in your engine, just do it. He's forgotten more about oil than the rest of us will ever know.
