Is "bypass" the same as a filter relocation kit?

Sorry. I'm a newb and don't know if bypass is the same as an oil filter relocation kit.

I have a 1999 Nissan Altima and the filter is a bear to replace. Hidden location deep under the car and replacement always results in lots of oil down the arm and on the floor.

I'd like to relocate my filter, but how reliable is it?

Anyone have experience using these relocation kits?

Thanks.

Completely different animals.

You can replace or rather, move your full flow filter and not have a thing to do with a bypass (ultra fine filter)

You can install a bypass filter that bypasses (just a small % of the oil) the normal oil system while keeping your full flow, regular filter in place.

Thanks for the replies.

That said, does anyone have any feedback/experience with a relocation kit? Are they reliable?

Thanks.

I've really never heard of one fail. It would be an installer issue. I've seen weepage with Permacool mounts due to (I assume) some poor casting/machining ..but I've had an octopus under my hood and not had issues.

What do you have in mind? If you can find it on sale (even if not) The Spectre 5971 is a fairly nice kit. Lots of useful parts. Amazon is out of them ..but SFXPerformance has them at a reasonable price under part number SPT5971. Put that into google.

The kit itself has provisions for a drain plug extractor (banjo bolt and hose included as well as a pump). This makes bypass filter installation a snap.

Ditto Gary.

I did a dual full flow remote of the Volvo turbo. 7 years with zero issues. I don't think the Permacool dual remotes had the porosity issues.

I would say if you have zero experience with routing and installing critical "hoses", hiring it out may be best, but it is doable.

And that's my point - the oil lines are the weakest link, IMHO. Never seen one fail though. Just require some level of attention and maintaining.
