Is anyone using universal fluid in toyota?

There is a reason why the owners manual doesn't give owner a choice on coolants.

Toyota Red OEM is a high quality fluid you should stick with. Don't pinch a few bucks and run into trouble later.

personally, I wouldn't mess with a store brand coolant. especially in a toyota. The reports are $20 at toyota dealerships for oem coolant.

I've used the Prestone Universal fluid in my dad's Toyota minivan. It has been in there for over a year now, no problems to report. The system was poorly maintained so I did a week long chemical flush prior to switching.

Toyota Red is an excellent coolant, I would stick with it.

My corolla came with the toyo pink and I am sticking with that

I paid 27.00 for a gallon of Red...doing this every two years is still pretty cheap.

If had to do it I would do complete flush and drain/refill radiator every two years to keep at peak performance

In a fit of laziness, I had a shop change the timing belt and water pump in my 01 Tacoma, insisting that they use factory parts. I just picked it up and checked the fluid....green! Should I flush it out and put Toyota red in it, or just wait a couple years?

The very same thing happened to me (what a coincidence) last month. I got the pump replaced on my maxima and Peak Global was used for all the coolant that was lost in the process. I flushed the entire system in a week's time with OEM coolant.

By the way, you may be able to get the Toyota coolant cheaper at the dealership... Check if they sell it over the internet, order it and pick it up at the dealership. Or call the internet department to order and pick it up. It works last time I did it in Toyota of Dallas. It was only $13 for the gallon, not much more than Prestone.
